Where's XP pro Boot file

Been looking for my XP boot file, but can't find it.

thought it was called boot.ini but a search turns up zilch.

Can anybody help!

Thats what it's called, are you searching hidden and system files?

It's usually in the root of your HDD.

click start, run

type

c:\boot.ini

press enter

shows up in run, but not in search

have display system folders & show hidden files & folders enabled.

Its not in the root directory!

elusive little bugger, I know its there (just repaired it).

I'll keep on searching.

If it shows up when you type c:\boot.ini in run, then it must be there :confused:

in the show hidden & system files

there's another one called 'hide protected operating system files'

don't bother enabling it though, just use run

Hi there, thought i would use this thread as no point in creating a new one as i am having a similar issue.
All of a sudden when i boot up, i get a quick message saying 'Invalid Boot.ini, using c:\Windows'.

Windows then boots up fine but when i do a search or try and run boot.ini in the run section of the start bar, it says it cannot find the file. In search the only file that comes back is boot.ini.backup.

Any ideas at all? Thanks in advance. (Running XP Home btw)

You can get access to the boot.ini from msconfig too.

System.ini and Win.ini are in msconfig but no boot.ini. This is very strange.

That is the pic in msconfig, would i be in any of the tabs? iirc it should be a tab itself.

You could try creating a boot.ini. Here is mine... I've done nothing special with my drives so it should work ok.

Have you actually set the search to search all files, system hidden and protected?

If it comes up in RUN it MUST be there otherwise it couldnt pick up the file as you specify a specific location.
