Hi guys, I have spent the last week trawling this forum trying to decide which new monitor to get! I'm still no closer to making a decision.

My main uses are webdesign, DVD's, a lot of writing (yawn, word) the odd bit of gaming, but that seems to be falling by the wayside.

I have to say for the money i'm very tempted by the Hyundai ImageQuest N91W or the Hanns-g widescreen.

I have pretty much discounted 22" and 24" due to the res on 22" and the cost of 24".

What are the advantages of going to 20", 19" seem to be better bang for buck.

Help!

if you go with a 20"WS model then you benefit from a slightly bigger screen size, but more notably a larger resolution. The main difference I think which needs to be considered when moving from 19"WS to 20"WS is the changes in panel technology used. The 19"WS market is exclusively TN Film based whereas the 20"WS market offers a whole range of technologies, suited for different application. Take a look here about panel technologies to help you understand the differences.

The 19"WS market being TN Film, is not really well suited to movie viewing. The technology suffers from restrictive viewing angles and comparatively noisy movie playback. The N91W and HW191D are certainly very well priced and are arguably two of the best in the 19"WS range. However, if you looked at some of the (also well priced) 20"WS models you could move away from TN Film and it's drawbacks. The Viewsonic VX2025WM and Belinea 102035W for example both used P-MVA panels from AU Optronics and these are widely regarded as some of the most suitable 19-20"WS models for movie playback. The technology offers wider viewing angles, deeper black depth, better colour depth and smoother and less noisy movie playback. These might be worth looking at if you can stretch the budget and are regarded as some of the best all round screens in the market at the moment.

Thanks for that Baddass, nice clear concised advice. I think I will concentrate on the 20" market, time to do my homework.

I have the Philips 200W6CS/00 which is a 20" 8ms IPS panel, and so far I am very impressed with it. I've moved over from an iiyama 22" CRT which was a superb monitor, I play a lot of games so was very reluctant to make the switch to tft, but the pull of widescreen gaming was to much to resist. I have experienced no notable ghosting and the colours and image quality are brilliant, also I have no pixel problems.
