Guys,

Got a problem which needs resolving pronto. I am selecting my next company car and have been offered the following.

118d available now with all the options I want or

wait 12 weeks and have a 120d with most of the options I want.

118d is much cheaper on tax over the 3 years its £1,920 cheaper.

Anyone driven both that can give a comparison?

thanks

Can't opt out really as I will be traveling ~20,000 a year. In my mind that is a lot to put on a car. If I balance the figures it leaves me with enough for a £9k car.

The thinking behind holding out for the 120d is the power. I have a 1.9d A3 at the moment with 105BHP but it has been horrible with the lack of power. Going from 105 to 177 would be nice.

then you have answered yourself, wait up for the 120d.
0-60 in 7.5 is nothing to be sniffed at.

Why not drive them yourself? Personally I'd take the £2k and enjoy the extra options for the cost of 34bhp because the 118d isn't exactly underpowered.

118d will be plenty quick for what the UK roads offer without loosing your job dependant license.

Is the 118d not avialbe with some nice extras like leather, uprated audio or something?

It's a hard choice. Has anyone driven both here?

Not really got time to try them myself. The car will disapear very soon.

I have only tested the 118d and felt it could do with a bit more speed but was a nice boost from my 105BHP.

118d has the phone prep, radio, tinted glass, 18" wheels, right colour (white), M-sport pack, cruise, auto wipers & lights, USB and PCD front and rear.

So pretty loaded.

I would get the 120d my self but the 118d is really not too bad. I had it for a couple of days when my car was in for a service.

Take both for a drive and see how you feel.

Get a petrol, the diesel engines in the 1 series are not that great. There have been quite a few cases of the cam chains snapping and writing the engine off.

The diesel engines in the 1 Series are amongst the best 4 cylinder diesels available. By contrast, the 4 cylinder petrol engines suck a bit.

I was interested in a BMW 1 series diesel myself. Asked me uncle who's been a bmw and now a bmw sytner mechanic for 10+ years and said he'd had to rebuild 4 in the past 18 month, due to cam chain snapping, 1 as low as 60k on the clock.
