Yo!

I want 2 screens after a long time wishing I had more space on my dell 24".

I have £450 to spend.................Which screens do you think I should get?

Thanks.

NB, I know I will be losing quality after the Dell, but as it happens i much prefer my mums 20 inch samsung TN panel for blacks and gaming so i wont miss the Dell one bit. Worst 450 quid i have ever spent in fact.

I think for dual display... the thinner the bezel the better (just a suggestion)
And also, ever considered on just keeping the dell? which dell monitor do you currently have?

I would get two DELL 2209WA - great monitors, i have 2 myself.

I know it's DELL - and you don't seem keen on your present one(?) - but these are great monitors and have the bonus of you still retaining DELLS customer service. Read some reviews and search these forums for user comments - and if you do decide to go this route be sure to get the A01 revision. (OcUK have these revisions in stock.)

The colours are the best i've seen on a 22", including black, and they're great for gaming.

Of course this is all relative - ideally try and see a few in the flesh for comparison (although this can be tricky.). Your present DELL wil be a tough act to follow.

to add to what Plec validly says, I think its important to consider that the 2209WA is an IPS panel, versus your PVA panel - so some of the problems you might have noticed like purple shift etc. should not be present :-).

In real terms I see IPS as a very good compromise between high quality colours, good viewing angles and a low response time. Generally TN panels are better in terns of response time, but inferior in all other respects.

How do games look on the 2209WA? is the picture very sharp? reason i am asking is because is there much difference between 1650x1080 and 1920x1200 for gaming if both resolutions were displayed on IPS panels?

I am probably ordering the Dell on Friday but was wondering how well do games look on it so anyone who owns one including yourself please give views thanks.:)

I can't advise you on the difference in resolutions - other than you're dropping from a 24" to a 22" screen so i suspect the 'screen size to resolution ratio' is very comparable. (Basically, i doubt there will be any discernable difference.)

I don't game much but the games i have played look very crisp and colours are well represented and blacks are about as good as they get on tft – plus there’s no discernible ghosting. (i've played/dabbled with the usual suspects - Crysis, Fear 2, C&C, CoH...)

The above, however, is very subjective but if you search out a few threads and reviews they should allay any fears or queries that you have.

I know everyone seems to beat down on TN constantly but tbh I've not had any issues with my hp22207 and that was TN, I've used that for just over 2 years. Sold it on now and have ordered 2 2409's Im sure I wont have any uissues with the panels as I'm normally relatively close anyway and my bed is the same height as my desk so I won't be looking up at the monitor.

My options were the Samsung's (til I realised the price they retail at now) I then saw the BenQ 2420 which I thought looked great, couldn't decide on the LG due to stock issues and eventually saw the Dells at a price I couldn't resist.

I had bought the Value 24" from OcUK in the meantime but when it arrived had bits missing and was silver not black as illustrated on the site so returned it.

I know it's a little outside your budget, but the Samsung SM2443's offer amazing quality, and the tiny bezel is perfect for dual monitors.

I've had mine for a couple of months and it's the best money I've ever spent on a monitor - and they were around £350 when I got mine :D

Second one is being ordered in 7 days time (pay day :D)

Nah i went for the HP in the end Plec, posted in the thread....the Dell seemed a very good monitor though i had more cash so went for the HP.(might get the Dell for downstairs pc heh)

Thanks for the reply too.:)

If you're talking about the HP LP2475w - then i you've bagged yourself a superb monitor (looks great too). If i could justify the expense and had the space i would be very tempted to have 2 of them side by side...

Yeah read my comments in the HP LP2475w thread, it's one of those things you just have to see in person.

Just tried Mirror's Edge on it completely maxed 1920x1200 with 16xQAA and it was probably one of the most lively images i've ever seen in a game.

The original poster should pick 2x Dell 2209WA's though....after seeing this ips panel in action i can see why people highly recommend them.

A01 ?

What other revisions are there and how do you tell ?

Thanks

A01 is the latest revision - and details can be found on the outside of the packaging/box.

OcUK - can confirm the revisions that they have in stock if you post in 'pre-sales' in the 'customer services forum'. (But i suspect that they will be A01 as they have recieved new stock since my order 2 months ago, which was an A01.)

Thanks folks, I think I am going to go with 2x 2209wa's, but I'm concerned that they share the grainy anti glare coating which stops my eyes from focussing correctly. I understand this is not something that affects everyone.

Thanks plec for explaining.

I need a monitor and i'm soo tempted to get one though a couple of reviews say at low settings you can hear the inverter buzz whine.

Hope thats not true as i like quiet computing.
