I have been looking at updating my Samsung SyncMaster 913N (4:3) to a 24" widescreen for a while now, and I have finally got the funds together to make a decision and buy one.

My current monitor is a TN panel, so I am wanting my new monitor to have better viewing angles. I mainly use my PC for gaming and movies, as well as all the usual web browsing and word processing.

I am currently looking at the BenQ FP241WZ monitor, since it is a PVA panel and has had mainly good reviews. I am also aware that Hazro is updating its 24" monitors in July/August, will this be worth the wait? I heard that the Hazro monitors have slower response times, which wouldn't be ideal for gaming. The OcUK monitor is definitely great value as well, but I am not too keen on the poor return service and lottery aspect!

As always, your input is greatly appreciated.

I'm about to get one of these as, like you, i've heard nothing but good about the BenQ FP241WZ.
The problem is, OCUK no longer stocks this model so i had to source elswhere.

Response time on the 24" Hazro is actually lower than on the Benq, 5ms vs 6ms.

I don't know about input lag times on the Benq, but the Hazro is on average 32ms, which is perfectly fine for gaming (I only really noticed lag at 60ms on the Dell).

I'd go with the Hazro every time, but that's because the horizontal "gamma shift" really wound me up on a *VA panel and I ended up getting this thing for less than the Dell 2408 that it was replacing (330 ex vat - lowest ever price apparently!).

edit: Forgot to add, I think mrk had the Benq before the Hazro and if he's around he may be able to chip in to the converstion.

I have been thinking further about my monitor situation and have completely changed my mind! Since I currently have an Nvidia 8800GTS 512MB, I am aware that it would struggle at 1920 x 1200 with maximum settings. As a result of this, I am going to order an ATI 4870 or Nvidia GTX260 to replace it.

So, my budget for my monitor has dropped to between £300-350. I know that for this price, I will be looking at a TN panel, but that doesn't bother me any more. I would also like it if the monitor was height adjustable, since at the moment I am straining my neck looking down at my monitor.

Any ideas? I was looking at the Samsung SM245B, is this a good monitor?

I really would love the BenQ, but since I don't do much photoshop work and can't see much colour shifting in my current monitor, I can't justify spending so much on just a monitor :(.

Any ideas regarding my previous post?

its a cracking screen for gaming mate and ive never noticed any ghosting , i know its expensive but its one of my best buys ever, sorry i cant recomend any other monitors as this is my first non crt , why did i wait so long to make the change.

Cheers for your advice, it was really useful. Does anyone else have any input into which TN panel would be the best buy?

Thanks Clok, but I am really after a 24" monitor. I am wanting to order this monitor before Wednesday, so I would really appreciate some more suggestions.

Does anyone here have the Samsung SM245B?

I am getting a little fed up with my Sammy TN panel, I long for a 26" panel that won't be unviewable other than dead on and will perform with no more than around 30 ms input lag.
I( was looking at the BenQ but it just didn't stack up with one or two reports of odd behaviour.
I guess the Harzo 26" is the only option, once it has its update.

Hmmmm, ok. I am now looking at the OcUK 24" value monitor since it is on offer this week with an excellent price, and most people seem to be happy with it. It will also allow me to have some more cash available for a new GFX card :D. I will probably just buy a stand for the monitor to raise it up a little.

Does anyone here have the OcUK 24"? Would you recommend it?

The benq is an exceptional moniter even at the £600 quid i paid for it, get one, you wont regret it, im thinking of getting a second!
