Which 24" LCD to buy?

Well once again looking for advice on which monitor to get - currently got an Asus 22" am looking to get a 24" for gaming mainly - to go with a new vid card - and advice on a good panel to get would be appreciated. Budget for the monitor is around £400.

Must Have:
DVI, HDMI, and low ghosting - input lag.

Im in the exact same situation as you are, I need a 24" with the best specs for under £400, I have come to the conclusion its either the:

Hyundai W240D-TN 24" - £328.99 inc VAT -
Which has the best specs for a 24" monitor on the site, the reviews on the review section of the site are all superb!

OR

Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24" - £381.86 inc VAT -
Which is probably the best name in the market, if you check the monitor section of this forum, there is a whole thread dedicated to it, and is current on 'this weeks offers' so its a four hundred+ pound monitor being sold at a nice discount, the SPECS on paper if you look, dont look at good as the hyundai monitor .. so im confused..

I need to decide which one before weeks end, im using the monitor for hi spec gaming (bought a new 280) and 1080p HD movie viewing, so hopefully somebody more technical can comment for us, between the both, as im pretty sure its between these TWO after quite a lot of research :D

Well I just went ahead and ordered the Hyundai to go with my 280gtx :)

I was leaning towards that one or the Dell but finally decided on the Hyundai, after checking numerous reviews - this one seems to be the most detailed - http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2007/review-hyundai-w240d.html - does mention a few downsides in image quality - but other reviews dont go into this much detail - and I doubt the average user like me would notice - lol.

Well, I've never had probs with the OCuk 'value' one, for the price it's stonking, the VA panel is awesome :)

Hope the Hyundai works out ok, though if I was you, i'd change the order ;)

post a pic up when it arrives!
 
The Hyundai is a little on the expensive side for what it is: a TN panel. The PVA model is better in most regards and is around the same price.

Ignore published specs: they aren't worth the paper they are written on. The contrast ratio will normally be using some sort of dynamic system (i.e. darkening the whole backlight) which may as well be a lie for how truthful it actually is. Refresh rates stopped being a problem once they got <10ms, so 2ms on a TN, whilst superficially looking better than 6ms on a *VA, isn't because of the drawbacks of the panel technology.

The specs are there to trap unsuspecting people into getting a monitor they think is better but by most metrics of "better" isn't.

Hey bud, I just bought that one from ocUK, and am quite impressed. I just got to the UK, and left my BenQ 20" LCD in S. Africa where I came from. The difference is well worth it. The price is not bad at all for a 24" Dell LCD either! I am thoroughly impressed so far. Just waiting for my ATI 4870 to be ordered at the end of the month to fully enjoy it though.
 
Well the Del 2048 arrived - shame my 280GTX didn't :(

So - very impressed - 0 Dead/Stuck pixels that I can see and the image quality seems very good to my untrained eye.

As for gaming - played some CSS with no noticible lag or ghosting but had to turn down settings some as the res was a tad much for my lil ole 8800GTX.

Overall very pleased with the Dell.

Will post some more when I have my 280gtx and am able to crank games up to full details etc.

That would be great colin, im still deciding wheather to buy this monitor or not :D any comments/pics would be great as im buying the 280 also
