My needs are somewhat different from the typical user, as I have a visual impairment and tend to sit about 12" - 18" in front of 24" monitor.

I did htink that bigger was better, and am using a 37" lcd tv as a monitor but its not as sharp as Id like, and its jus ttoo big and I have tu turn my head to much to see things on the edges of the screen...

Viewing angles arent important, sat in front.
Not too concerned about lightening fast response times, but do enjoy the odd gaming session...
I need pin sharp text and good contrast.
Dont need all the connectiors, dvi will be fine, wont be using as a tv.

I have a budget of around £250 (poss a bit more for a great monitor( and am looking for at least a 24". Not conerned about paying a bit more for an adjustable stand as I will be buying an arm so I can easily move the monitor closer, or higher etc...

Id read that IPS seem to have the best affordable image quality, and TN perhaps the better response time.. IPS being more expensive than TN... so I would imagine this maybe the better option to go for?

Would appreciate any help with monitor selection or suggestions...

To be honest, if you're going to sit that close to the monitor I'm not sure if a IPS panel will be 'better' for you. I noticed myself that IPS glow comes into play when you get really close.
Anti-glare coatings also tend to be rather noticeable when you get close, so I wouldn't recommend the 24" Dells.

I think you might just be best off with the BenQ EW230. It has a VA-panel (so a step up from a TN-panel), no IPS glow (since it isn't an IPS panel) and it has a 'semi glossy' coating. Finding a glossy 24" is really hard and if you couple that with 'a non-tn panel' it only leaves you with the old Apple screens which can only be found for sale online on certain sites. So I'd say the BenQ would be as good as it gets for you.
Do read the excellent tftcentral review btw.

Hmm.. interesting.. Ill check them out... they certainly seem relatively "cheap", I hope not at the sacrifice of image quality... Im happier to pay more if the image is better quality.. but as you point out, my close proximity to the screen may have other disadvantages, so Ill look into the va panels...

Thanks

EDIT:

Having said that the 37" tv Ive been using is also IPS, and other than the sheer size of the screen and larger pixel size resulting it not the sharpest of text, it seemed fine... Think I really need to go and see some in action before purchasing blind.. lol, so to speak!!
