Right ive narrowed my choices down to these ones, i want a monitor which will be mainly used for gaming but also movies and doing a bit of work on.

which is the best one to go for?

1) Samsung SM-245B PLUS
2) Hazro HZW24
3) BenQ FP241W
4) BenQ G2400W
5) IIyama Prolite B2403WS
6) Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP
7) OcUK Value L2442WD-VA

prices of these vary from 230 to around 450 but £450 is my max really

so any guidance would be appreciated!

lol, i wouldnt say that is a particularly narrowed down list! :)

since you've got the money to spend, i'd say you'd probably be best with a non TN Film model to be honest, otherwise you'd have to put up with the restrictive viewing angles that technology offers, which could become frustrating for movie viewing certainly. The TN Film models are quite good for gaming, and often have low input lag (compared with a couple of the others there), but to be honest, some of the VA/IPS models are still perfectly fine in this regard anyway.

I'd therefore rule out the Samsung 245B, Iiyama B2403WS and BenQ G2400W since they are TN Film based, and you'd be better with the more rounded performance of the VA/IPS models i think. The Hazro is the only IPS model there and does offer some good all round performance, including the widest viewing angles of the lot. It is free from the off centre cotnrast shift that some people notice on VA panels, but tbh, not really a big issue to most people at all. The only draw back really of the Hazro's performance is that the black depth and contrast ratio are pretty poor, especially if you compare them with VA panels. I reviewed the Hazro here which might help.

The Dell 2408WFP is a very good screen and offers a mass of connectivity options and ergonomic adjustments. however, there's been a fair few issues reported by many people with the screen, so it might be worth waiting for the A01 revision to be released if you wanted to consider the Dell. I reviewed the 2408WFP here as well. I thought ti was very good, and didnt really see any issues apart fromt he very high input lag. The A01 udpate is supposed to fix the issues including the input lag, and if it does, it might well be ideal for you. for gaming though, the current 2408WFP models are not ideal.

The BenQ FP241W might be a very good choice i think. great all round performance, no real issues to report either. The Z model might even offer an extra edge for gaming so worth considering for it's BFI technology, designed to reduce perceived motion blur and improve gaming performance.

I dont know much about the OcUK Value screen really, but it's received good reports from buyers here. It's basic in design and features, putting it far behind the Dell and BenQ models, but the performance seems to be very good. If you want to save money, i'd still consider this one, but if it were me, i think the pull of the more high end models would be too much :)

So in summary, i'd say either get the BenQ FP241W (possibly the Z model in fact), or wait for the Dell 2408WFP A01 and see if the input lag and other issues are fixed :)

Think you forgotten about these 2 excellent MVA panel screens which are also a tad cheaper than the Dell and BenQ:

LG L245WP-BN
Viewsonic VX2435bm

hey badass awesome info, do you have any idea when this A01 revision of the dell 2408 is going to be available? For me its between the benq and the dell but the issues i've read regarding the dell had put me off

oops forget that question - sorry ;( i didn't notice the link to your site, thanks again

So which is the best gaming panel? is it the s-ips? this is a primary gaming monitor secondary movie watching monitor. i dont really want to spend more than £450 so the more expensive benq is out of my reach. choosing a monitor is so damn hard!

I love the OcUK 24" model. For the price it's very hard to argue with the quality of the panel.

The only gripe I have is the slightly poor stand, but other than that it's spot-on.

The stand on the ocuk value is ok

Why it moves is simply the design

The actual base is just a large oval shaped slightly raised design from abs plastic i guess

If this was of a thicker material the base would be more solid

As it is if you were to move the monitor back n forth you will see the base where it attaches to the monitor stem "give" with this in a slight down/up motion which allows for the moving (not drastic in anyones books)

You can make a base easily if you can use basic tools

But don't let the base off a purchase it don't exactly rock back n forth like a suspension bridge in a force 15 lol

Erf this is a really hard decision, what i might do is go for the ocuk value one first and if i dont like it rma it and get the benQ one

Well,

My Panel is the same in my ocuk value as the BenQ FP241W

I am extremely pleased with mine to say the least :)

Yeah decisions decisions lol
