Anyone know which ones are which, would be useful if OC said which was which in the adverts

I've looked a few up and often its not even clear from the manufacturers websites.

I'm looking for a 24'' panel and having read about the differences I think I want a VA panel as I'd prioritise colours, photo editing, general work etc over games. Though I do play games, so don't want a slouch.

the BenQ EW2420 seems to fit my requirements but I'm put off by the QA issues. don't want my purchase to be a lottery as to whether i get a good one or not.

I've currently got a Viewsonic VX2025, bought in 2006 and I believe its a VA panel (not that I knew that at the time!). The monitor is great, I just want a bigger one and have a second use planned for this one. Viewsonic don't seem to be the leaders that they were and i can't work out from their website what technology they use. they are all 'active matrix TFT'.

Budget is circa £200, has anyone got a quick list of highly;y regarded panels that fir the bill (i.e 24", VA technology, circa £200, not too slow for games).

Many thanks

For £200 pretty much everything is going to be TN I think, unless you get something second hand. VA panels don't seem to be too common these days, I think the BenQ's were the first ones I'd seen in ages.

Out of the OcUK stock of 24" monitors the BenQ EW2420 is a VA (AMVA) panel monitor, the Dell UltraSharp U2410 is an IPS panel monitor (H-IPS) and the rest have TN panels. The EW2420 would be just fine for your uses if you get a good one - but you're quite right and have clearly done your research; it's a bit of a lottery. Just remember that you have rights under DSR to return a product you're not happy with for a refund if you notify the retailer within 7 days of your dissatisfaction. The EW2430 is due to launch shortly as well, but apparently it uses the same panel as the EW2420 and the differences are largely aesthetic.

The other alternative would be to lax the 24" requirement, and get a 23", as then you can get a Dell U2311H, which is an S-IPS panel, and rather good. You can pick one up for £224.99, or possibly wait a bit, as they were doing them a few weeks ago for just under £200, which is a bargain, especially because the stand is excellent too (adjustable height, can be rotated (both from portrait to landscape and vice versa, and the base allows the monitor to be rotated - like a turret if you will) plus the usual tilt).

Marvin, yes tempted by the Dell and I can wait a couple of weeks to see if the price moves, not sure how much difference that extra inch makes, I know what the wife would say ...

PCM2, I may also wait and see how the new EW2430 shapes up as its out imminently, perhaps thewn make a call between that and dell.

Seems a same there isn't more choice, I could stretch the budget up a little for something special. Anyone know of any others coming out imminently?

I have read that a lot of people were not as happy with a Benq as other brands. I suggest doing a little research first. The Samsung P2450H is a good alternative 24" screen but is a TN panel. I've also read some people don't like Dells anti glare screen. Guess its a personal thing.
