Looking to pick up a 275 GTX, and having a look at the BFG cards. Wondering if it is worth paying for the OCX edition of the card. Any opinions?

I have never overclocked anything before so wouldn't know where to start on bringing up one of the other cards to the same speed.

Depends what your willing to pay. I would look at purchasing the oc2 card at minimum.

Problem with overclocking these cards yourself, is that you void the ten year warranty.

Personally, I wouldn't. I'd go with the manufacturer you prefer (warranty etc) and get their base 275. In most cases, you should be able to reach (and possibly improve upon) the figures that an OC'd version of the card have as stock. Oh, and you should save a bob or two, too!

OC'ing the graphics card really is as easy as moving some sliders and doing some limited stress testing. You'll get plenty of help here and it really is very easy.

If you are going to oc then just go for the cheapest card available as warranty will be void.
