'Allo.

After finally moving to a decent area (the copper at my old place was so degraded that a connection over 28k was a rare thing :() I need to get back on a decent connection.

I'm looking for a 2Mb service that is uncapped...For as little as possible per month AAAANNNNNND...With free setup ;)

I just want to be able to plug my Smoothwall box (AMD K6-2 with PCI ADSL modem) into the wall and go, basically.

I've been out of the ADSL loop (no pun intended) for about 18 months....I need help!

Cheers,

*n

You're not going to get cheap uncapped 2mbps with free setup... so something's going to have to give.

Zen 2mbps is £34.99 a month with £47 setup
Eclipse 2mbps is £29.99 a month with £47 setup
Newnet 2mbps is £29.95 a month with £47 setup

That's virtually all the unlimited ISP's around now...

BT = £30/month, free setup, free wireless modem (saves me earache off my gf ;)) aaaaand...40Gb limit.

...

I think I could live with 40Gb - I don't game and rarely download bigstuff™.

:/

Mmm.. looking at the Eclipse link they'll do free setup if you take a 12 month contract, or pay back the £47 if you leave within 12 months.

Much better option than BT!

If i remember correctly you live in Newcastle... Why not just get Telewest?

I live in Gateshead and Telewest don't serve my area.

You know where you can stick that rolleyes ;)

If you can swallow a 50 GB peak time cap, there's Nildram with "up to 8Mbps" for £25.99 a month, inc VAT.
Like Olly says, "cheap as possible" and "unlimited" are pretty much mutually exclusive - bandwidth doesn't buy itself.

As ever, ADSLguide is your friend.

ive got telewest 4mb and for gaming its not so good.....phoned telewest about being disconnected all the time while playing online especially bf2 and all they said was "we dont support online gaming"...am now looking for new isp... :( ...must get away from cable and go down phoneline route instead

I've just migrated from Plusnet to Zen @ £35 per month. It's expensive but you do get uncapped blazing fast speeds. I was quite gobsmacked at how quicker web browsing is compared to PN. Imo your only choice of good uncapped providers to my knowledge are Zen and Eclipse.

I am currently using freedom2surf uncapped service with no setup fee for £27.99 per month. But that is a 12 month contract.
Or you can pay a setup fee like me and it drops to £24.99 per month and the contract is a rolling monthly contract. :)

F2S is exceedingly poor at the moment though, awful speeds and traffic shaping means it's as bad as Plusnet.

I don't notice any of these issues but I do only use it for on-line gaming though. I do download software occasionally and I always seem to get the full speeds that I should be getting.

You act like living in Gateshead is better than Newcastle. Last time I checked it was full of tramps (not that Newcastle is any better), and I was only making a suggestion.. get a grip.

 That's out of order tbh.

another vote for nildram here, 50 gig peak cap but unlimeted out of peak hours its a great service. 2mbps for 25.99/month

I'm not acting like anything.

I made two statements; I live in Gateshead and that I cannot get Telewest. I lived in Fawdon for 18 months previously, in Walker for 18 months before that and before that, I lived in Berwick for 18 years.

May I suggest that you attempt to get over your persecution complex and stop reading into into statements whatever your paranoid/delusional mind can conjure up?

Where I live in Gateshead is better than where I have lived in Newcastle. Infact, from what I've seen so far (2 1/2 weeks), I would compare it to the quietness of Darras Hall...but only 20 minutes walk from where I work in Newcastle city centre. Private estates are great.

Back on topic: Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll check out Nildram...tbh, I don't think I'll need uncapped as I don't game and most of my net usage is browsing forums and sharing music (my own before I'm leapt upon. I made it, I can share it with whomever I want ;))

Last time I was on ADSL was with a 1Mb service from Fast24.

The unofficial support site, have issused a news letter detailing their fixes to the network and that the problems (which i never was subject to anyway) are fixed.

*shrug* all back to normal methinks.... - well when they switch to their new network at the end of feb/beginning of march....
