Looking to pass my car on to the Mrs and replace hers with more of a toy. It needs to:

Cost less than 9k
Be big and comfy
Be 3.0 or bigger
V6/V8 or IL6 engine
Be reliable
Have low repair bills
Have a tax band of circa 300 or less
Be an automatic (ideally)

I'm after something to cruise rather than raz about in, my commute is 10m each way so I'm not worried about mpg.

Mondeo v6? 3 or 5 series bmw? Lexus are interesting but they look very dated.

XJR

Although wanting low repair bills on smothering 'Big, comfy, above 3ltrs, auto, under 9k' is wishful.

Some strange requirements tbh! Why 3.0 or bigger? What if you can get more power from a 2.7 or 2.9?
There's also a good chance that you're likely to see big repair bills with the cars that come with a 6+ cyl. They tend not to be your cheaper common cars.
A mondeo with a 3.0 V6 - I'm not entirely sure when these were last available in the UK, 2006-2007ish? - assuming you're here as I'm sure in the states they had a different name (Fusion maybe?) Going for something that old is going to put your reliability requirement out the window.

Agreed, although my XJR has been utterly reliable since I bought it, and the XJ6 I had before only threw up one bill for an electrical fault.

£6-8k would get you a very nice XJR with all the big bills taken care of - they're cheap to tax, incredibly comfortable, economical for what they are and it's far easier to find a good example than it is with most cars as their owners tend to take very good care of them - the same applies to Lexus.

Is that because the owners are usually of a certain demographic? :p

Mercedes SL500
Maserati Cambiocorsa

or if you want a saloon car

Mercedes C55 AMG
Mercedes E55 AMG

Over 3 litres and low repair bills dont normally appear in the same sentence.

I wouldn't be too fussed if it was slightly less than 3.0, I just want the feel of a lazy but powerful motor.

What is the xjr like for 6ft folk? They look quite low to the ground.

I would take an XK over an XJ if I was looking, unless you really need rear seats as they are tiny (the rear legroom in a xj is less than you would think too).. I owned the latter and it was relatively expensive to maintain and I couldn't call it reliable.

A bmw 630/645 would certainly be worth a look at

Range rover sounds like it might fit but maintance and repair can be eye watering. An x5 might be cheaper if an suv works for you.

One of the W211 E Class V8's would probably be a reasonable shout - with the exception of the 55 AMG. E500 maybe?

They're not that expensive to run - more so if you can do some maintenance yourself - and they're fairly reliable. Not a great deal to go wrong with them - there are few big bills to watch out for depending on spec but generally, parts are well priced and in abundance.

No, surely not? :p

I'm 6ft and I'm perfectly comfortable, have had a few taller friends try it and they've never mentioned any issues.
