Hello,

Having a look round now for a Good 30" TFT (2560 x 1600) for the future. I have would like to game at this res, and also use it for DVD/Blue ray etc. Photoshop IQ isn't "that" important - but would help.

I keep looking at this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-023-DE&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=}Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP 30" Widescreen LCD Monitor from this site here, but heard "mixed" reviews. Not sure what to do. Would, preferably like to hear from forum users' and how they find 30" TFT's for gaming (Lag.Response etc).

:)

That Dell is the one I've got and would recommend it - absolutely no issues with FPS gaming and gives a very immersive experience. I've heard that there are lag issues but I've not noticed it with mine.

Obviously make sure your graphics card is up to the job of gaming at its native resolution and shop around for the best deal.

I agree. Dell make some of the best monitors out there and that one is no exception.

The only thing I would suggest is waiting a couple of months, as ATI and nVidia are supposed to be releasing new graphics cards. :D That's if you're after a GFX upgrade as well.

thanks for the responses, and "heads-up" on the Dell. some other monitors put me off a little with there Lack of imputs (Samsung 305T/LG W3000H-Bn both come WITHOUT HDMI inputs.

As for GFX cards, I have 2 GTX8800's running off a QX9650, so it would be good for "year-old" games (not the 2 year old crysis though:). And OcUK have the DELLS back in stock!. As for GFX cards for the future, well, don't know really, as it's a bit confusing ATM. I have a SLI Striker II Formula MOBO, So i "THINK" Crossfire is out on the ATI Part, but will see what pops up. was going for 2 GTX285's - but I have the DX11 Bug i'm afraid:(

Thank you:)

For me, watching movies on 30'' is brilliant, but for gaming, a bit too big. Feels like i can't see the corners of the screen. And some people do have lagging issues with 3008, but professional games won't use a 30 inches anyway. I tried to play crysis warhead with maximum res and everyting with a gtx280 and I failed totally.

I've been running a Dell 3007 since they were available, they are fantastic screens fow whatever you use them for. It does take a little while to get used to the screen size for gaming, as you initially move your head around the screen, rather than just look at it as you would with smaller screens.

As for GFX to run it, get the best card you can, you will need it...

when i bought my hazro, the dells had input lag from scaling (even at native res) and also lower IQ, they did however have better response times. I found the 12ms on my hazro was horrible coming from a 2ms panel. Got used to it in a couple of days though and now i dont notice it. I love playing on a 30" screen and the IQ compared to all the others at the time was amazing, out of the box it was the closest to the "real" color thingy out of all 30"s tested by some random website. I would probably recommend one of the others for gaming now though, sicne they have come down in price somewhat.

+1 for the dell they are excellent monitors had mine for about 2 years now and wouldnt swop it for anything, also the support is excellent too with a 0 dead pixel guarantee which means you even get so much as 1 dead pixel and they will replace the monitor, i had trouble with mine ( well it turned out to be the graphics card ) i phoned tehm up about 5.30 thursday evening and reported a problem, and there was a guy knocking at my door at 9.30 next morning with a replacement, no questions asked, and like i said it wasnt the monitor in the end.

I went 2407 -> 3008 -> 2707

The 2407 was great , but I wanted something bigger
The 3008 was big , but had issues with light bleed (tried 3 diff units) and also lag was bad
The 2707 was just right , size good worked ok with a decent card 8800gtx and was 1/2 the cost of the 30"

If I was looking again , I would be checking out the 2709

I went from the 2408wfp to my current 2709W. I have to say, i'm loving the upgrade. Its great for watching any videos - I far prefer it to my 32in Samsung TV as the image quality (mainly the blacks) are so much better. Also, its 1920x1200 res which is very big, but not so high that it is hard to play current games on it- I believe playing games on the 30in screens is not as simple, you will ceratinly have to invest in a much better GPU for the same performance. Also, it costs half as much as a Dell 3008, so technichally you could get TWO for the same price as one 3008 - now that would be spectacular :D

However, If you need the extra pixels and space on a single screen- my recommendation has to be the Dell 3008WFP. Great monitor, and if you have any problems then you know dell have your back.

Dell 3008wfp is in the same price range with apple 30 display. They both use ips panel, but I haven't compared. Apple seems a bit more elegant with aluminium frame?
