Hi guys,

Im looking to buy in some new equipment to do some Linux game serving benchmarks on to fuel my curiosity.

I've sourced a US store where I can attain the following and both for the same price:

A64 3400 Newcastle, 2.4Ghz, 512Kb cache @ £80
A64 3400 Clawhammer, 2.2Ghz, 1024Kb cache @ £80

Which would should I go for, the intended application will be for hosting one/two Linux based srcds server(s) for me to do some tests on.

Cheers,

You do realise that they are socket 754. Someone will be on here soon saying don't get 754 get 939 as it's better. Pants!!

I had, well still have in another pc, the Clawhammer 3400+ and it did good service until i got my 3700+ Clawhammer. To be honest i don't think there's a lot of difference between them. They are both 3400 because the Claw is 2.2ghz but with 1mb L2 cache which they reckon is worth about 200mhz. Some things benefit from a greater cache, some from a greater clock speed. They are both 130nm process and consume about the same power so it's up to you really. It depends if you will be clocking it. If you get the Claw and can get 200mhz out of it you have a 3700+.
