Which 4870?

because you get a free screwdriver and stickers with it :p .

Just installed mine and the startup fan scared the crap outta me lol, idles a bit hot for my liking so i'll get me one of those 3rd party coolers. (Idling at 79/80 on this hot day)

First year is the retailer, pretty sure its three years overall. Gigabyte UK support is by GBT Tech 01908-362700. Some have less overall or non UK support, Asus is also 3 years iirc. Always best to check if the retailer warranty details are correct, especially if its only a few quid between them.

Ahh, cool. Thanks for that. I was wondering why the number was showing up funny but it's because of Skype :o. It just means I can click it and Skype asks me if I want to top up to phone the number.

That is good news on the Warranty front though. I wish OCUK would make this more understandable than what is on the site for noobs like me :).

Got to admit, the Gainward looks like fantastic value...

is there any reason why so many people are saying HIS over the others?

Also anybody got the gainward?

The HIS Tool with the light it seems. My m8 got two with his 4870s and gave me one. Yes, it's quite a nifty tool but I wouldn't pay £20 for it lol.

I see that the Powercolour is only £5 more, its done to warranty lads, any idea who has the better service between Gainward and Powercolour?

i am looking at a 4870 as my 3870 fan is about to die.

not that you would keep a card for 10 years but why do nvidia cards have a considerably longer warranty than ati?

all the ati cards show 1 yr warranty so how do we find out what the actual warranty is?

Wasn't it the HIS warranty that starts from the date the card is manufactured and not the date you purchase the card?

I did read it in a review but can't find the linky?

A lot do. I had a Gigabyte 8800GTS G92 and the warranty starts with them from date of manufacturer.

Plus side, 3 years (2 years parts and labour, 3rd year parts only) and no sale receipt required - they go solely from the serial number on the card.

Downside is the card might be a couple of months old when you buy it or even worse a year old if it has been sat in a retail shop for a long time.

Makes a Gigabyte a good 2nd hand card to buy or a good one to sell on as the warranty is transferrable.

That's one of the reasons I got £126 for my 8800GTS G92 last week. ;)

^ £126 for your 8800GTS G92 :D Remind me to never do a deal with you, thats an amazing price, I assume it was to the uneducated :p

That warranty is superb, as after 3 years there is no way they could replace the card or even the components - it would just be replaced with an eequivalent from their current line, undoubtedly superior.

Yeah, that well known auction site. I linked to about 6 etailers all still selling the 8800GTS G92 for between £160 - £200, mentioned the three year warranty based on serial numbers, no receipt and it flew in the auction.:D I tried it on MM for £95 inc first but it didn't sell so I pulled it.

I sell my stuff for the proper price on MM but tend to sell high value stuff on auctions to maximise the money.

A lot to be said by "Buy on MM, sell on the fleabay"

I saw a Northwood 3Ghz, Asus 478 mobo and 1gb ram bundle sell on MM for £35 inc recently when the same items were selling on fleabay for cpu £30, mobo £60, ram £20, all plus postage.

It was enough money to prompt me to buy the 4870 as a replacement.

Only disappointment was I ordered a (cheaper) Gigabyte one but after a week of them still not having enough for back orders they changed it to a Sapphire (£10 more expensive) free of charge.

WOuld still have rather had the Gigabyte for potential better resale value later.

I know. A three year warranty gives peice of mind that you will get a 5870 as a placement in the third year plus substantially adds to it's resale value if you don't keep it that long especially since no receipt is required.

I have not checked whether the three years applies to the 4 series cards but can't see why it wouldn't since all other Gigabyte cards are covered for three years.
