Will shortly be building a new machine. Decided on a 4890 but struggling to work out which to choose. Seen some posts suggesting that some are very noisy and mess up case cooling hence the question.

i'd suggest gettin the sapphire 4890 vapor-x if your worried about cooling and noise, the card comes with a slight overclock and a very cool cooler which keeps noise an temps down a lot compared to other models

ive got the XFX XXX 900mhz one, on games its never loud and doesnt run too hot either
only slightly louder than an 8800gtx on 100%
however if you whack the fan up its like a tornado lol

Thanks all, Asus don't seem popular on the rma front so the warranty may not be all it purports to be. So I guess the Sapphire 4890 vapor-x gets the biscuit - I've had one of their cards before and never had any problems no experience of xfx.

XFX have to worst RMA service I have every used, but if you buy a XFX card from overclockers any RMA will be dealt with solely by OcUK so I wouldn't be put of from buying a XFX card from overclokers, I would not buy one from anywhere else in Europe.

Go for the Sapphire Vapor-X as others have said. It's got the best cooler out of the lot, is well priced, and looks pimp.

Another vote for the Vapor-X from me, but I'm biased :-)

Seriously though, I spent a lot of time researching to decide on the 4890. I then spent a great deal more time deciding on the model. I guess it depends what your priorities are. Mine were to have a competitively priced, quiet card with good cooling.

You can save some money and buy a cheaper reference card, you might want a longer warranty and you might like to have the option of softmodding the voltages to get a higher OC (Vapor-X OC's well without ability to increase voltage but you'll have to be very lucky to hit 1ghz on the core).

The choice is yours ;-)

To throw another one into the mix, the MSI Cyclone might be worth a look if you can find somewhere selling them. The core of top spec model is clocked at 1Ghz and it looks like it has a decent custom cooling solution to boot. Downside is the cooler is probably not as quiet as the Vapor-X.
