Hi all,

I’m going to upgrade my rig. I’m going for the following:

This will be an upgrade from my X2 [email protected] with 4x1GB Corsair XMS3200. As you can see i will be doing some overclocking on the E2160 beast, so my question is which ram kit do you think I should go for. Don’t want to spend a fortune but would consider and opinions on memory or the rest of it.

Ive has this input from sniper123:

Save yourself some money and get 2 of these...

I have the same mobo and 4x1GB of that ram.
Currently ram @ 930mhz 4-4-4-12 2.1v

Many thanks :)

PS I'm going for 4Gb as I do a lot of gaming in Vista, Thanks

Are you after 2x2gb or 4x1gb?

The link is cropped and therefore doesn't work, but I'm guessing that it's meant to point to the PC5300 Ballistix. And it would be a very good choice if you're happy with four 1gb sticks as opposed to two 2gb sticks.

Link now working. Thanks

I was thinking more 2x2Gb as its ment to be better for overclocking, but I may be wrong. If 4x1Gb still performs as good then great. :)

So not too fussed really.

The 2x2gb kits currently won't clock past their rated speeds. So if you're looking at getting as close to a 400mhz FSB as possible then you'll need to buy PC6400. And the 2x2gb PC6400 kits are currently pretty pricey at ~£180.

Whereas two kits of the 2x1gb PC5300 Ballistix will set you back £130 and will overclock further than any of the 2x2gb kits.

Having four 1gb sticks will not hamper your CPU overclock in this case. I had (and so have many others) four sticks of the PC5300 Ballistix running at 1066mhz without any effort.

Because they're pretty much at their limits already. People are reporting being able to OC as little as 20-30mhz on the PC6400 kits.
There is a fabled Mushkin 2x2gb PC6400 kit out there that's meant to overclock pretty well, but it's hard to get hold of in this country.
