Which 50" Plasma (yet another spec me thread)

I think I will pop down to Richer Sounds then! At least they will have set them up properly.

It doesn't seem to be a great time to buy a TV though, a lot of the models seem to be end of life now and the prices seem to be about the same as spring/summer last year!

Would hope they would ... but ask either way mate and as GSXR has said you will get a much better level of service. As for buy now or buy later only you can answer that .... once you get an itch only you can decide to scratch it ;)

I've gone off the idea of the LG now, comparing them side by side to 100hz models in the shops the difference in movement is amazing. There was an excellent Samsung 46LE650 but reading up the later versions have a rubbish panel so I won't be going for that.

So 100hz is now on the list and I think I want 46/47 inch instead of 50. ;)
To properly evaluate in the shop, take the controls and shew the sales kid away for 30 minutes, shop displayed models will never have a sensible range of settings so you need to get that right first before condeming one or the other

You need to ask for the remote and check its not set to shop mode ... in the case of the LG if on this setting it is complete pants !
+1

Prices are now alll over the place as the VAT increase has kicked in and shops are worried about sales .... that £1600 John Lewis deal on the Panasonic 46" and DVD player went out of stock a couple of times before the VAT increase, i wonder how it's sales figure are doing now it is £1699 because of the VAT increase ?

The pk590 is a stunning tv at an amazing price. It didnt blow me away in the store, but at home under normal lighting on THX settings its sublime - way better than some of the new sonys I've seen around friends. The often cited criticism of reflection is one to be aware of though.

The rainforest people have an excellent tv delivery service for folks who are not aware. You book a 1/2 day slot, and then a couple of days before we received a call asking for us to confirm a one hour delivery slot on the allocated day. Arrived right at the start of the hour (7am) - superb, and free.

Glad your enjoying it :) ... (so where's the pics of it in situ/mounted :D )
Was meaning to post a pic a few weeks back when I had it just on the stand; finally got round to wall mounting it the other day (needed a new wall bracket):-

Loving mine too. Had the PS3 hooked up to it for a while now, enjoyed Batman again, looked absolutely amazing. Also been enjoying lots of gaming and haven't had an issue with any lag.

It does suffer with image retention, I've got some lovely faint PS3 dashboard icons. Not a problem really though, you can't see them without a black screen and close up.

Also, I used my homeplugs to get the internet upstairs and the TV still buffers on iPlayer, which is a tad disappointing. Does it pull through a higher res video than the standard iPlayer on a laptop? I don't have an issue streaming through a laptop upstairs or the PS3.

Talking about image retention, how are most people finding this screen?

Mine isn't as bad as 6 months ago but i play something like GTA IV for 30mins - 1hr then go to a white screen i can see clear outlines of the Radar / map etc, clears up with about 5 / 10 mins of TV watching.

When I got my TV from RS they had Avatar playing on all the TVs in the shop. Every single one was super saturated colour wise and had the dreaded videotape effect from having all the picture and motion 'enhancing' effects on. They aren't any better than anywhere else in that regard, but it sells TVs since people see everything looking super bright and colourful and think it's great. They also tried selling me expensive HDMI cables but doesn't everyone? :(

Generally you get the bargains when they're down to the last few of 'last years model'. In RS case, it's usually a case of looking online at their in store deals, seeing they only have like 3 left of the TV you were after and going down there and them getting it out the back as the newer model is on the shop floor.
