Which 5090?

Which of the two cards seems best from an ownership pov:

Asus GeForce RTX 5090 ROG Astral OC White 32GB​

MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB SUPRIM SOC​

So excluding silly purchase costs, which has the best perceived build quality, most effective cooling system and anticipated longterm reliability/better RMA process? I’m particularly focused on not melting any cables, but both seem to draw 600w plus in testing. Undervolting should help here.

From my research there is much mention of coil whine, specifically for the ASUS card, the MSI not so much. The MSI seems to have slightly better cooling and at a quieter level.

I’m not looking to rehash the value debate, I have the money to spend and I won’t be feeding the kids baked beans from here on. Well, not based on this alone.

I’m coming from a Zotac 4090 Amp Extreme which has been faultless over the last 2.5 years, but I think for the 5090 gen, these two cards offer better features/performance this time around.

Interested in people’s thoughts.

Thanks for the responses, I must admit the reports of poor RMA experiences with ASUS (more seem to happen in the US?) does lean me more towards MSI this time. But as Purgatory points out the ASUS has plus points around components etc.

I’ve ruled Zotac out this time purely because the Solid isn’t that much cheaper and looks a bit underwhelming, even compared to the Suprim imo.

Is anyone swayed by the pin monitoring on the ASUS card?

So I’ve taken a punt on the MSI card this time around. I was all set to go ASUS but found I couldn’t ignore all the negativity around coil whine and noise in general. It was comparatively difficult to find any negative comments re the MSI card.

Fingers crossed I get a good card, time will tell.

I’ll use the 12V-2x6 cable that comes with the PSU. I had hoped this issue would die with the 40 series cards, but here we are again.

Yeah MSI’s anti-sag bracket is rather disappointing; plastic and not that sturdy. I’ve gone with a Lian Li vertical mount kit that also includes a metal anti-sag bracket. That should keep it in check.

I’ll also undervolt the card to be extra cautious, that’s really all I can do to mitigate issues.

Are you happy with your Suprim?

This may be true, but you can’t buy a FE currently. And certainly not this week which is when I require it.

Just wanted to close this off, for anyone that's interested. New machine arrived and so far so good. The Suprim is super quiet, with no obvious coil whine so far (yay). Repeated Timespy runs and some gaming shows the GPU temp topping out at 69 degrees. The card is quite understated to look at, but seems well put together and has serious heft.

Happy with the choice so far. Hopefully life with the 5090 will follow my 4090 experience - uneventful

My card is installed in a vertical mount, so no saggy bottoms. It did come with a bracket too which is installed. Free would have been nice.

Yeah there's no 'value' argument to be made, it's a hobby and hobbies generally cost. Meh, what you gonna do.
