Which 660s for SLi?

Hey guys,
Good morning, good afternoon and hope you are having a great day.

Right, as it says up top. I'm going with a 660 SLi setup, I've sat and read, watched and debated this for 30+ hours now and this is my final decision I'm thrilled to say, I've decided to go for a 660 SLi setup

The final decision is what ones to go for. From what I have read about the place, I'm seeing that the Twin Frozr III, Asus Direct CUII and Gigabyte Windforce 2X are the best three in the line up.
But I cannot get a straight answer from anywhere stating which is the better of the three.

Opinions?

660 SLi doesn't make much in the way of sense, barely anyone wants a single 660, never mind two. :D

No but seriously, your signature says you have a 7950, so why 660 SLi?

Well i definitely wouldn't recommend going from a 7950 to a 660SLI setup personally. Probably better off sticking another 7950 in there, if thats what you currently have.

I thought I edited my signature earlier...

My 7950 is faulty and being sent back. I dislike AMD and want a 660.

I was thinking of going with a single 670, but the benchmarks prove themselves even against a 680. http://lanoc.org/review/video-cards/5953?start=2

I've spent hours reading on this, and seeing as two 660s come in cheaper than a 670 and have more power than a 680, to me it just makes sense. And what ever problems come my way in SLi, I can deal with them.

My main question still stands though in the way of choosing the best 660 for SLi.

Furry muff, I'll leave it to someone who knows something about the 660 then.

I dislike AMD because while they overclock well and are decently priced, their drivers leave something to be desired and their cards can't handle Physx. I play PlanetSide 2 mostly, though I tend to play and complete everything new that comes out.But PlanetSide's experience is greatly improved by Physx.

Thank you for your input anyway LtMatt.

I have a MSI Twinfrozr 660 and it is a really good card, it's well made, quiet and fast. I have also considered going down the SLI route and I actually ordered a second card this morning but I have just cancelled it because I keep reading about microstutter and now I'm not sure what to do.

I have heard about microstuttering everywhere too, but apparently there are many easy fixes, the best and easiest one which is weird, is to wiggle the SLi bridge before playing a game, for some reason companies tend to cheap out on them... In which case, I say just get a new SLi bridge lol.

Here is an example of a microstutter. It's no where near as bad as I imagined.

One 660 plays all of my games on high settings at a good frame rate. I think I'm getting addicted to bench marking and just want higher frame rates.

I'd check the size of your sig, the forum has strict rules regarding this.

That's pretty good. I'm looking for a solid 60fps at 1920x1080. SLi is the way forward as far as I'm seeing.

I didn't know that, I'll sort it out later today.

For some reason, they just absolutely puzzled the **** out of me lol. I eventually figured them out.
But in comparison to nVidia, I think they are far more on top of their game, with beta drivers released every week almost. It's very impressive to me, and I love the new nVidia experience, which just makes things a whole lot easier, though I am aware that it won't really make SLi any easier, I'm ready to take the beating to get it to work.

Both driver releases by AMD and their catalyst control center I found to be a little sub par, but I think the nVidia control center is quite poor too.
I don't know, I tend to whine and complain when it comes to massive companies releasing user unfriendly software, I found AMD's software a massive pain to figure out. I didn't even know what drivers to install in the first place lol.

That is the actual article that just pushed me way in favour of 2 660s.
There is also a pretty good vid on YouTube of two 660s destroying a 680 as well.

I was looking at both the MSI Twin Frozr OC or the Asus DirectCU II OC. Unfortunately, Overclockers Uk no longer supplies either of these, so I've had to go to the alternative, Scan. The Twin Frozr III goes for £325 together while the Asus DCUII goes for £350.

The airflow in my case is fantastic at the moment with another fan on the way to increase airflow. It's a massive case too, and if I do have heating problems with my GPU's. The case allows a 200mm fan to be placed directly above the CPU, PCIE 1 and PCI 2 as well as partly covering PCI 3.

Got more bits and bobs on their way so I can improve airflow. Remove the HD caddy. Front fan. New CPU cooler. Few other things too. It doesn't look pretty at the moment.

May I ask why you went with 660 sli set up, I'm in the exact same boat as you, do I get 660 and sli for better performance then a 680, or do I buy one 680 now and maybe another in the future?

I'm still not sure but ppl keep talking about 192 bit bus on the 660 not being enough for AA and so on.

Also theres the slight issue "Maybe" with new games not working in sli untill theres a profile for it.. oh I dunno what to do either.. lol

on another note take alook at the following card, a firend of mine has just bought one and it runs at TI performance for £40-£50 cheaper the cooler is great its not gone above 65 on full load and is very quiet. He gets some really good FPS out of BF3 and Witcher 2, Im very impressed with it.

I decided to go with two GTX 660 MSI Twin Frozr III.
The performance is fantastic and it's not caused a problem yet.

The Twin Frozr III are far and beyond the best deal about. Please read the FAQ. I would have bought from here if they had the Twin Frozr III, but unfortunately none in sight.

That's good to hear.

How are the heat and noise levels? any sign of microstutter? what games have you tried?
