Which 680 for watercooling?

Hi guys,

I am looking to get a WC setup soon, and so, need to think about a GPU that can be watercooled easily. My last setup had non-reference PCBs, and no one made waterblocks (:(), so this time I'll be going for a card that has a readily available cooler.

My options are:

  • EVGA 680 GTX 4GB (stock)
  • Gainward Phantom GTX 680 (non reference)

I appreciate that this may be better in the watercooling sub forums, but.. my question is.. knowing EK are doing a Gainward block, would it make sense to buy that card now and wait, or get an EVGA with slightly lower clocks (and a block now)?

Not knowing how the 680s overclock, I'm basing this purely on stock clock speeds. If one or both cards can be overclocked then that may change my opinion.

30" screen at 2560x1600 and because I like to max the settings :)

Thanks for your reply. I didn't realise you could OC the core clock, so that's about sold me!

I'd still go for 2gb, it'll be plenty at that res.

4GB is only used fully in tri sli as it needs GPU grunt to match the VRAM excess :)

Already bought them now ;)

I may need your help with the WC spec at a later date, so I'll make another thread when I know where I am financially, in about a week or so.
