Just built my new system last month

If you're interested:
Cooler Master Haf X
MSI Z77 Mpower Big Bang Mobo
Intel i7 3770K @4.40GHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2
Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz
XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular 80 Plus Silver PSU
Asus 6850 1GB (Robbed from my old Q6600 System)

Looking to upgrade to the 680 after Christmas and i'd just like some help picking which one to go for, I've been looking at the MSI cards (Like the Lightning which would go well with the look of the mobo), they seem good, but i'd like the opinion of others.

Also while i'm here i'd definately will need a new Monitor, been rocking with a VGA monitor for 8 years :D

The reviews on this seem to make this a good one to have http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-051-BQ&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

I would like something bigger than 24"

Thanks in advance.

As an owner of MSI Lightnings, I would say they are great cards. They run at 1202Mhz as standard and clock up very nicely.

Any specific reason for a 680? 670's are so close to performance and can save you a fair few quid. For AMD, they have the 7950 and this will compete with a 680 at a fraction of the cost. Maybe worth considering.

As Gregster said, a 7950 will compete with a GTX680 for a fraction (nearly half) of the cost.

It makes very little sense to go for a 680 or 670 unless you have specific needs.

If you are determined to get a 680/670 and a bigger monitor, I will leave this here for your consideration. It is pricey but man does it deliver. It has built in 3DVision 2 and uses 'Lightboost' which seriously brings 3D to life. The older 3D reviewers said about ghosting but with lightboost, this helps to eliminate that. I run 3 of these in 3D surround and it seriously makes my jaw drop in some of the games.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor with NVIDIA 3D Vision 2.0 Glasses - Black £479.99
Total : £491.99 (includes shipping : £10.00).

OT, did you get my email Spoffle?

No 120 Hz is smooth enough.

Personally 27" is too big physically for 1920*1080. Can you see what it's like for you before buying anywhere?

I would say 120 Hz over a higher resolution personally but it's completely subjective and you'd be better off trying before you buy really.

So stick with the 24" BenQ I linked eariler or similar.

That's a nice monitor, but £500 is too much for me to spend on a monitor,

What about one of these? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-040-AS&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

Am I gonna see a difference between 144Hz vs 120Hz?

The GPU, I don't mind paying the premium, But looking at the 7970, couple of googling and reading reviews, it seems to perform better then the 680...But its much cheaper and its cheap for a reason?

The 7970 is the king of cards at the moment. I hate to say it but I have to be honest.

It depends.

Some people prefer the larger screen as opposed to the superior pixels per inch on a 24" display.

It's quite difficult to recommend. :)

Like me.

I went from a 1080P 24" to a 1080P 27" and loved it. Picture is obviously going to be stretched a little but this is more than acceptable for me and having 3 of them, I couldn't notice anyway.

I'm probably under the bigger screen list, but see how it goes after christmas.

I'm still torn between the 680 and 7970.

Nvida have better Driver support, PhysX, consumes less power I think...
Is there a reason behind the cheapness of the 7970?

"Nvida have better Driver support"

Not really no.

The 7970 is by no means cheap, it's overpriced, but the GTX680 is even more overpriced.

Get yourself a 7950 for around £220-240.

I have same monitor as gregster but only one. At 27" 1080p I love it, suits me fine.

Only you can decide on cards. I have gainward phantom gtx 680's and they are pretty quiet on air even when stressed out.

My EVGA 680 is best thing I ever bought.

You can buy anything you want, just take what you hear on the forums and make up your own mind. Don't let others do it for you.
