Hi all, think it's about time I upgraded from my 4850, since it's only 512 and starting to be insufficient in some games I play.

Decided on the 6950, seems like it should last a while, good for the price, but not a clue which one to get.

On here there are 3 by MSI, regular, Twin FrozR II and III, difference I assume is regular is stock speeds stock heatsink etc, other 2 are the same just different cooling and already overclocked? Which one has best cooling/noise ratio?

The ASUS DirectCU II is only £200 on offer and I have always used ASUS for parts in recent years, how does it compare to the MSI versions?

Kinda leaning towards the MSI Twin FrozR III due to it being on offer, because it has 2 fans how much louder is it compared to the stock one and is the performance gain worth the noise? (I like quiet)

Thanks

I've been helping a friend decide on these cards over the last couple of days & the general opinion from reviews is the the Asus is the Coolest & quietest but it's also the largest & takes up 3 slots. It's huge! So be careful it'll fit in your case.

The MSI Frozr III is just the same as the Frozr II but has a factory over-clock and a slightly different cooler but performance is the same or as near as damn it.

If your system & case can take it I'd recommend the Asus 2GB DirectCU II for £199, if not then I'd go for the Twin Frozr II and overclock it yourself & save cash at the same time.

I would go with the FrozR III, it also has it's vram overclocked to 5200MHz. All the other 6950's have it clocked at 5000MHz, so it could also have better vram.

This would also help if you lock the extra shaders.

i was looking at these the other day, all i knew is i wanted a 6950. In the end i got the FrozR II in the sale. I didnt want to flash as i was going to a huge boost from my older HD4970. So far its been running smooth and quite. Not overclocked it yet but the cooler seems to keep it really low.

It also looks good in the case window.
