Hey guys,

I can't decide which type of cooling to go for for another 6970.

This will be going on an EX58 Gigabyte UD3 V1.6 in an Antec 902. Not sure whether to get another exhaust out (as my current HIS is) or the lightning cooler that will pump hot air into the case?

Any thoughts?

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX HD 6970 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE BattleField 3 PC Game £269.99
1 x MSI HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Deus Ex PC Game £269.99
Total : £551.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Depends how good the cooling in your case is. If excellent cooling then the Msi is the better and cooler running card though it will dump heat in the case. If your case cooling is not good, I suspect this is the case as you went for the HIS in the first place, then get the XFX. Simples no.:D

Case cooling is OK as far as I'm aware. I keep it clean and clean the dust filters quite often.

As for getting the HIS I got that because it was at launch and only thing available. £256 at the time jeez how the prices have come down....oh wait!

Would there be any issues with having two exhaust design coolers together? I think the UD3 I have has slots pretty damn close to each other. Or will it just mean that the top card will be somewhat warmer?

I know the MSI is prolly technically the better card as it is basically a Lightning without the BIOS but I have noted several returns/threads about overheating issues with it. PErhaps MSI just sold a batch of shoddy lightnings and called them Twin Frozr IIIs ?

Yeah I was thinking this. I remember urs had issues too and it was one of many threads just in here.

Think I might play it safe and get the XFX.
get the msi. if its faulty send it back to msi and get proper lightning card then.
