Which 8800?

Vanguard min spec is 512Mb, recommended 2Gb.

I only have 1Gb, but another 1Gb stick on the way tomorrow..

I do intend to replace the CPU at some point, but preferably in the summer and not right now!

Anyway, I've plumped for the EVGA card and a Tuniq Tower to replace my Freezer Pro. I may get a bit more out of the Opty then!

What time do I need to order by to still get next day deliv from OCUK?

Tried to order before and bloody barclaycard declined the transaction, and had Barclaycard fraud on the phone!!

They are sorting it out by 4ish...

They are such a pain for doing this - umpteen times it's happened :-(

I'll be honest, I'd like to keep the Opty for a while - I'm just playing Vanguard at the moment, and it's juddery as hell - hoping the 8800 will play it with ease.. I'm currently playing on a 20" TFT at 1600x1200. Can't bear to play at lower resolutions than that!
The problem is Vanguard. From my experience of beta, it's just a poorly coded program. The graphics are fair, not breathtaking, but it absolutely kills most people's hardware.

You probably know this already, but they had to release VG much earlier than they'd hoped for financial reasons. The game engine basically isn't finished yet. Personally I'd wait for Sigil to finish coding the game rather than splash out on new hardware to brute force it into running OK :p

If that's the case, then it seems worth going for the EVGA, as they let you upgrade the card within 90 days to a better model, and give you back the full purchase price towards another card.

Is this true?

They let you upgrade the card ?

Yes, EVGA do a step-up programme that lasts for 90 days, so if he buys the EVGA GTX at £400 then he can step up to the 8900, if the 8900 is only say £450, then he only has to pay £50, plus send his card back, as they give you the full price back for your card. :)

What can I say.. ordered at 3.14pm yesterday from OCUK, email to say dispatched at 3.44pm, and missus just phoned to say it's arrived..

I could have saved about 20 quid by buying the graphics card elsewhere, but since I needed a Tuniq too, combined postage made it worth it..

First class!

Yeah for the backplate, and its also fiddly, as if you screw it on to tight it will short the mobo so it wont boot, so you'll have to keep faffing on loosening it till it doesn't short so you can boot, mind you that may not be on your board that problem.

Thats a cracking service there by these guys, you normally have to order before 3pm i think to get it next day still. :)

Might be worth making a cardboard "shim" then, to put between backplate and MB to prevent it shorting. MB is a A8N32 deluxe..
