Arg, need an 8800GTS 320MB in a hurry and the BFG is out of stock

Now I don't know which way to jump. Should I go for the EVGA "Superclocked" at £217 or the EVGA KO ACS3 / BFG OC2 at £235?

If the latter, which of these would you go for? The silent cooling system of the EVGA sounds good plus they do the "free upgrade" system if you change within a few months, don't they? Or is that just in the US?

Bit lost here, any advice appreciated.

Wait for the R600's, only a couple of weeks away now (23rd-24th they are released), and Nvidia's mid range cards are due on the 17th, as well as the 8800 Ultra, GTS/GTX prices should fall around then or when R600 is out. :)

well i read a comparison in another post for the 8600 and it scored 5.5k in 3dmark06 with the same rig as mine but a 8600.

where as i get 5.7k with a 7800gtx....

so the 8800gts is best buy for money at this time...

but im waiting for the R600 as price of G80's will come down for people, and allso there will be better cards on the market

Well I could wait, and have thought about it, but my current card is going this week and I've got nothing to replace it with, even temporarily. Anyone got a dirt-cheap knackered old PCIe card I can beg, borrow or steal short term? Just to run Windoze. Actually, stepping on MM territory here, maybe I'll post over there :)

Go for the BFG OC2 card or the EVGA Superclocked card, both are well priced.
Well The EVGA Superclocked seems to be better value than the BFG OC2 as it's 17 quid cheaper and all but identical (ok 5Mhz slower core), however for the price of the BFG OC2, EVGA do the KO ACS3.

Is the silent cooling system of the EVGA KO worth the extra dosh or should I stick with the Superclocked?

Out of interest Gibbo, do EVGA honour the swap-out system if you upgrade in the near future and if so, what are the terms of this? I remember some discussion on this in the past but can't remember if it was restricted to the US or something.

Cheers :D

Actually Gibbo, the site says the EVGA KO ACS3 is 580/1700 when the EVGA website puts it at 588/1840. Only a minor difference on the core speed but a lot of difference on the memory. Can you confirm the EVGA website specs are indeed correct and the OcUK site is wrong cos, if so, that card looks like a bargain at £235.

Thanks for all the advice. Just been up to Stoke and bought the card.

Went with the BFG 8800GTS OC 640MB card on "This Week Only" in the end. I figured that, as it'll be driving a 1920x1200 screen in the near future, the extra memory would be worth more performance than the extra speed of the "more overclocked" 320MB cards. Here's hoping I've made the right decision.

I will be selling a Inno3D 8800GTS 320MB when R600 is out, stay tuned!

Are the 8800 deffo coming down in price this month if so i will put off upgrading my pc that bit longer[been trying to upgrade for a month now so whats a few weeks. How much will the R600 be going for

No "deffo" about it I don't think, merely speculation that, when R600 arrives, the 8800s will drop in price.

(Of course, now I've bought one, they're certain to halve in price on Tuesday)

That one is £411+£10 delivery  . Or don't you pay VAT? I did find it elsewhere at a reputable retailer for £408 delivered, but the two cards I bought last week were on special offer but they are on an even more special offer this weekend, so I'm still not too upset.
