Which 970 should I pick?

I am interested in a 970. I am okay with waiting till Christmas as well, do you think they will drop in price in that period?

My only requirements is that the card should be 290mm max (so the gigabyte G1 is out of discussion), the cost should be < 275. I am okay with fan noise (have an HD 6970 so fans don't bother me anymore). I don't want to OC too much either and a 3yr warranty minimum is a must.

My best pick so far is the MSI. Is there anything out there that might be better and fits the above?

Appreciate any help!

Cheers

Id go with the cheapest 970 with 3 years warranty then.
Next year there will be much much better cards for around the same price so paying as little now is a wise move.

These 970s and 980s are like the 670 and 680s and look what happend to them!!

I picked up the EVGA for 252, not the best 970 but a decent one with 5 year warranty and i think they do a stepup program?

Much better cards next year? Of course, then when they are out, you could say wait till next year for better. Just like phones every year. Buy the best what's available now

I went for the Galax black edition, heavily overclocked with a backplate and looks sexy as hell.
All for a great price as well.
I did consider a cheapy Palit blower card but heard it was noisy and looks cheap as hell.
Can't wait to get my card this week....I feel giddy as a schoolgirl.

I am in the same boat as OP.

i thought I had decided on Asus Strixx OC but the Nvidia with reference cooler is tempting.

i am trying to find the dimensions of this card. Anyone know?

Can this card be overclocked like the 3rd party partner's cards can?

Which would be the best between the two? especially when considering it as an investment for pc gaming over the next 3 years.

I know I could buy a cheaper one but i'm fairly decided between these two now.

cheers

i still can't decide. the Asus is looking to push close in terms of fitting my case.

Can someone tell me if the Nvidia ref cooler edition can be overclocked to a similar level as the other 970 cards?

cheers

I'm still deciding at moment, think i'm going for the MSI, even though deals finish tomorrow, its not really much of a deal with just £10 off, so not losing out that much.

I decided not to get a new graphics card right now, but would probably go for the MSI if I had gone for a 970, based on my experience with another MSI card with a similar cooler. It's quite impressively quiet compared to my own older card (and that would admittedly be a significant reason to upgrade...). I'm sure others are also good, but I only have personal experience of MSI's.

I think the msi has a passive mode at desktop like the strix, and the palit too, atleast the 980, not read many reviews

pretty nice feature

I went for MSI and am more than happy with them. Fairly quiet even under load, temps are good and no coil whine for me either.

Having said that, the Galax Hall Of Fame Edition despite the price looks absolutely gorgeous!!

Also have heard positive comments from friends regarding the Asus Strix, and Gigabyte G1 Gaming cards.

Got mine as well. It's very very quiet, very very cool as well (22-25 idle (I know, my room is pretty cold), goes to 30-35 in games like Eve online and Wow with no big fights on screen). Reached 56 degrees in WatchDogs but that's about it. I've disabled v-synq in Eve and it got 450 fps and I immediately heard the coil whine. It's good that I always use v-synq it seems :)
