Hello All,

I ordered AMD Athlon64 3800+ E6 CPU, but I see now that
Opteron 146 dropped in price.
I can maybe amend my order if I am quick.

Is it better to get an Opteron 146 (OSA146DAA5BN)
or an 3800+ (singelcore)

Please help...

Below what I ordered:
1 xCorsair ValueSelect 512MBx2 Kit DDR400 CL2.51 xKoelpasta (Univendi eigen merk) 5 gram1 xArctic Freezer 64 Pro1 xAMD Athlon64 3800+ 2400MHz Tray Socket 939 Venice E6-stepping1 xASRock 939NF4G-VSTA Socket 939

Depends if your overclocking, my 144 (1.8GHz) opty does 2.8GHz on stock volts, will hit 3GHz with volt mod on air. :D

I do not know if I will overclock, I do not have much experience with that yet.
Will it be a good clock with mobo ASRock 939NF4G-VSTA and corsair 400 2x512 and artic freezer64 pro?

the mobo is equal to the sataII which is so popular on this forum I believe.

the processer 3800+ cost me 93 euro and the opty 146 costs 109 euro.
the 3800 is 2400 mhz with 512 cache and opteron 2000 mhz with 1mb cache.

Im not sure on the overclocking potential of that particular motherboard. However, I do know the Opteron is a San Diego core and they are consintantly very good clockers.

I would get the Opteron.

Keep the A64. The 3800+ should be a good clocker, and don't forget that your motherboard may not like HTT's over 250. With a 3800+ that still gives scope for 3.0Ghz, while with a Opty 146 you'll top out at 2.5GHz.

I would have payed a small amount extra and got the 4000+ SD Complete bargain and most hit 3ghz+++ out of the box! as a) You are already gettign a better cooler and b) it has 1mb cache rather than 512k

I went with the A64 4000+ as I only use my rig for gaming and developer support for multi-threading is still very low. The 4000+ went straight to 3Ghz with a Freezer 64 Pro on a DFI nF4 Ultra-D.
