Which AMD Graphics Card?

I'm in the market for a new graphics card, originally I wouldn't have suggested I needed anything too powerful and would be looking to spend £200-£300... but that appears to be able to purchase me quite a decent AMD card.
I do a fair bit of gaming, but really not that serious (no 4k maxed out stuff.... currently!).

With that in mind, is there any particular cards that's really good performers for that money?
Initially I am looking at the Sapphire Radeon RX 480 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express ?

p.s currently have an AMD 6950 :|

To me that card is not value for money, should be no more than £200 at this point. Shame really, there was better MSI card for £212 after cash back not so long ago.

How long are you looking to keep the card for?

If you can wait, I would wait on Vega to come out which will likely offer a much better bang for buck card. If you have waited that long keeping a 6950, waiting max 6 more months to bag a much better deal cannot hurt I would say ;)

Personally for that money I wouldn't go for a reference version.

pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by reference version?
A quick google mentions the stock coolers are usually under par compared to other manufacturers?

TNA, I think I could wait a week or three but not 6 months.
6950 has just died and now need a replacement.

I have a new mobo bundle arriving this week from overlockers which includes a 240mm rad.... I had considered adding the graphics card into the loop but not yet given it any serious thought. Wanted to get the system setup first before looking more into that...

Yeah that's what reference is. Stock cooler. Aftermarket versions usually have better cooling solutions.

If I was going to buy a n RX480 it would be the XFX which is sadly overprived but appears to be a much better 480 than any other, From what I've been reading it seams Sapphire dropped the bakk a bit with there 480 Nitro, They usually lead the way wqith there coolers but not this time apparently.
This is the particular XFX that's meant to be a lor better than any other,

The Red Devil seems to be pretty good too but not in the same class as this XFX.

That's the problem it's £50 more than the red devil. Is it really worth it for that much more. I managed to get the MSI gaming x on the offer TNA posted above and that's the only reason I bought a new card. Plus I like MSI. My last 7850 is still going strong after nearly 4 years and same with my motherboard that I've had for 3 and a half years.

If there is any way that you can wait for post-Christmas then i suspect you may be able to get a deal... currently you'll probably be buying at the top of the price curve.

If you're looking to save a few quid then why not go for the 8gb sapphire Rx470 nitro + oc for £199.99

They are very close in performance to the rx480

if you really want a 480 then one of the 4gb ones will do you fine

+1

8GB isn't essential for the settings a 480 does best at (1080p and the occasional 1440p).

Turn the textures down you'd be hard pressed to find much difference between the top texture settings in a still picture never mind at 60fps

For £200-300 I'm sure the Fury would be your best bet (no way would I pay over £200 for an RX 480 that is generally slower than a 290x). The fury should be approx. 20% faster than the RX 480 at 1440p.

I agree. Even a R9 Nano (FuryX) is much better option, and there are quite a few second hand going for around £200.

However for "new" the RX480 Devil is not that bad, and overclocks nicely.
