Hey all,

Must say, this forum has been the most useful one to me so far!

Right, I'm looking to buy an amp and set of 5.1 sound surround speakers for roughly £250. The amp will have 3 consoles feeding into it - an Xbox 360, Xbox and PS2 - probably expanding to the PS3 when that gets released.

The speakers will be used mainly for gaming, as well as the odd film every now and again. Ideally they'd need to be fairly small/light as I'll be mounting them on a plasterboard wall. However, at a push I can get some tall stands.

The amp will need to be able to set the volume of each speaker, as the speakers aren't going to be aligned (the shape of my room prohibits this - pictures can be supplied if required).

My mate recommened the Logitech Z-5500 THX® Certified 5.1 505 Watts Speakers - Retail (SP-021-LG) available from OcUK for £200, thus leaving £50 for the amp - although I'd love more suggestions.

Cheers guys,

-RaZ

LOL ;)

Those speakers do come with a hell of a lot of connections with the amp built into the sub

They are an incredible set of speakers if you get them, the only way you could get better sound is to go into a much more costly seperates systems

Ignore your friend.

If you can get down to Richer sounds and have a look round, do that. You'll find that you can probably get a reasonable 5.1 hi-fi system for your budget.

By far the best option would be to look for second hand bargains. Even people who spend thousands on their hi-fis buy second hand because, like a car, the previous owner takes the depreciation hit when a newer model comes out. I bought everything except my speakers second hand (even they were end of line and hugely reduced) and got great bargains imo. It takes a little more effort, but is well worth it in the end.

ROFL - ignore your friend, he doesnt know what hes talking about it seems.
I think the only way your guna be able to get a decent 5.1 for this budget is either by going to ebay, or, getting a bottem of the range 5.1 amp, and a pair of speakers, and add other speakers later when you have more money.

If your buying new that would be your best bet, loads more stylish, much better built. just more hifi than logitech could ever do.
if you dont mind 2nd hand you could grab a what-hifi 5 star av receiver and some pretty good full size 5.1 speaker sets, which would get you even more hifi/ht for your money!
Marantz sr4200 amp is a good bet, new 300bux, 2nd hand they go for as low as 70bux. had one plumbed into my ever expanding home theatre system and it really held up well, is a real musical av amp!

bottom line is dont bother with logitech when it comes to audio, they havent a clue :)
