Having sent my Sumvision Cyclone X4 back because the Kitkat OS it used was atrocious I am stuck trying to figure out a replacement.

I have narrowed it down to three boxes:

1. Fire TV 4K
2. Nexus Player
3. i68/R68 (RK3368 CPU Boxes)

I don't want to spend a penny more than £80 so it rules out the Shield TV and HEVC/x265 support at 1080p is a must.

I have some concerns though:

1. Fire TV 4k seems to be the best choice as it is the most powerful (A72 based CPU, at least for the main two cores) but I don't like that it uses a custom fork of Android and I can't replace the launcher with the Android TV Leanback launcher.
2. Nexus Player is 'old' now and doesn't officially support HEVC/x265 though I've read it can play it back using a combination of CPU and GPU acceleration. It does have the Android TV Launcher however which I really like.
3. RK3368 is £30 cheaper than the others but has a Chinese offbrand CPU, runs Lollipop so may support Android TV Launcher and the 'Leanback' apps and also supports HEVC but you are basically stuck to the ROM that comes on it and maybe a handful of community roms and as it is relatively new it wil be buggy for a while to come.

Does anyone have an RK3368 device?

Is the Fire TV 4K a better choice over the Nexus Player bearing in mind that I am stuck with Amazon OS?

I have a first gen FireTV and really like it, the stock Amazon UI is perfectly fine in my opinion. If you get a 4k one you can always keep an eye on AFTVNews.com and XDA for info on rooting it if you really want to change things.
