im having brownout problems of late which the router doesnt like
also have th odd brief powercut
so i want an APC UPS (appears i need a smart one)

does anyone with a conroe machine use
line interactive APC SUA750I Smart-UPS 750VA USB Serial 230V

if so what do you run off the UPS ... TFT ... router ... cablemodem etc
and how long does it give you in the event of a power cut

thx

Get the highest capacity UPS you can afford, a 1000VA should be sufficient. The APC site has run times according to power ouput. For a gaming rig with a monitor attached I would get 1500VA.

Also there are "Back" and "Smart" UPS's, the former only kick in when total power failure, but the latter filter out any brown outs and spikes too.

most expensive i can afford
APC SURT10000RMXLI Smart-UPS RT 10000VA RM 230V £2600 :)
would prefer to spend the money on something else tho

was hoping to spend around £100 (less is obviously better)
only want one which will last for say 3 minutes of power outage then shut the pc down

the line interactive ones seem to be almost double the price
Whats the advantage of paying extra for a line interactive one as opposed to an offline one

ocuk seem to be out of stock for most of them
iv looked elsewhere for price estimates have seen the following

line interactive APC SUA750I Smart-UPS 750VA USB Serial 230V for £120

offline APC Back-UPS RS 1500VA (BR1500I) UPS System for £125

thx

I've already said the differences between off-line (backups) and interactive (smart)

A Backup UPS is "dumb" until total power failure occurs. A offline won't protect against brown outs, which is a partial loss of power or large voltage dip for a few milliseconds. Probably notice it before, the lights dim but your PC stays on. This can damage components in your PC PSU.

Say 600W is maximum usage output including a large screen TFT. With a 1000VA you'll get 7 minutes. With 1500VA 17 minutes.

For a system with 500W usage (and monitor) 1000VA-10 minutes and 1500VA -26 minutes .

thanks for the reply
brownouts have been the problem here
the router hates them
pc stays on cable modem and screen are fine
so guess i need the smart ups

will have to do some research on
line interactive APC SUA750I Smart-UPS 750VA USB Serial 230V for £120

guess i can always run the tft off the mains if its a problem
dont fancy parting with over £200 for the smart 1000 or £300 for the smart 1500 (at places they are in stock)
