I wanted to buy an album from each of these artists, to go along with a purchase of Franenstein Girls by Mindless Self Indulgence...

Can anyone recommend which albums by each of these two would be best to get for a noob?

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume 1 (85-92)

This album is incredible. I've listened to it constantly since I first got hold of it in 1993. I even remember hearing the intro to the first song for the first time, and demanding to know who it was.

And when you consider that he is the same age as me, it means he recorded the first songs on this album when he was 14 years old! Built his own instruments for it too I beleive. Mad. Genius. It's a matter of opinion, but I don't think it's been bettered.

Can't comment on Squarepusher. Someone recommended I have a listen, as I'm an Aphex Twin fan, but it's just nowhere near as good (again IMO).

Much the same as me really. Selected Ambient 85 - 92 is genius. I'm quite partial to Drukqs aswell though.

Squarepusher: go plastic, its pretty mad but really good my favourite from them that or 'Hello everything' thats there newest one :)
As for aphex twin hmmmm well I'm no expert but 'Come to daddy' EP is good :)

The other reason that Selected Ambient Works Volume 1 is good as an introduction is that it's quite easy on the ear and lush to listen to. His other stuff can be quite aggressive, and the sounds he uses really nasty! Still great though obviously.

Aphex Twin - Druqks, or Selected Ambient Works Volume 2
Squarepusher - Go Plastic

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album

Personal Choice, has some classics on there such as "Milkman"

Milkman is not on RDJ Album/LP, its on Girl/Boy EP :)

I would like some milk from the milkmans wifes ****.. Wouldn't we all tbh.

*Drukqs, because you just get so much, you get a taste of everything, prepared piano, mental drummyness etc.
*Big Loada, no question whatsoever, it has 4 of his best songs on (and i'm including all of the gig and unofficial releases there). Which is more than any other album/ep (IMO).

The Squarepusher album I'd recommend to a newcomer would have to be Hard Normal Daddy. Reason being that it's the one album I find to be consistent throughout and the best examples of both his bass playing and his programming - Papalon, Coopers World, Fat Controller - without just being about fast beats or bass pieces (like on Ultravisitor). I do really like Music is Rotted One Note, but for a newcomer it's a really bad album to start with unless you're coming into it as a fan of later Miles Davis and/or late 60s-70s jazz-fusion . Make that your second purchase.

So much to choose from with both of those artists!

I'd probably have to say The Richard D. James Album for Aphex Twin, and Big Loada for Squarepusher. Both are nice and varied, not too mental and I think they'd make for a nice introduction.

Depending on what side of Aphex Twin you're willing to go for, either Selected Ambient Works 85-92, or the Richard D. James album. "Xtal" is my highlight of SAW 85-92, and probably "Girl Boy Song" or "4" from Richard D. James.

My favourite Squarepusher, although I haven't heard the new one yet, is Music Is Rotted One Note. Probably more accessible than the other records, its not as glitchy and has an element of jazz. "My sound" is my favourite from that record. Ultravisitor is a pretty good album, too - "Iambic 9 Poetry" is bliss :)

The USA version of the RDJ album includes the Girl / Boy EP.

That's cheating :D

Yeah, I'll change my Squarepusher recommendation to this actually, if you're interested in EPs too CBS.
