Hi!

I've put togther my new build now, and installed win10 on it. There's a big list of useful OC software in the sticky thread. However those are too many tools for me to go messing around in straight away.

Is there some current shortlist of essential utilities?

I need to:

* Check fan speed, cpu temps, voltages etc.
* Run CPU stress tests over time to check the stability and thermal performance etc.
* Any other initial / essential basic testing to ensure my components are all OK and no problems. e.g. PSU? etc.

Notes:

* It's a skylake i5-6600K (in a gigabyte z170 gaming 3)
* There is no GPU yet, just the Intel HD530 IGP
* It has a Samsung 850 EVO ssd

Many thanks.

All CPU overclocking is done in the BIOS
All GPU overclocking is done in MSI Afterburner
Most of the temp. monitoring is done with AB too but you can also use HWMonitor
Check Hardware speeds with CPU-Z and GPU-Z
Control fan speeds with SpeedFan

That should get you going :)

Stress testing is a bit of a topic in itself... I personally run 3dMark Firestrike as my go to benchmark and then just game normally to 'stress' test...

Make sure you scan any of those files if you download them, whilst they're all on sites I have used frequently I cannot vouch for their security :)

Thanks for the answer.

I should have just googled "essential overclocking tools"... it seems to pick up some decent guides / articles.

After the usual benchmarks/stress tests like Firestrike/RealBench etc, prepare something like 5 videos and leave them encoding overnight. Encoding catches out unstable OC's very well.
