XFX GeForce 7800 GS Extreme Edition
i have read a couple of reviews and they say the xfx card is a winner on the agp platform. what i am wondering is i have always had ati but am not sure on this card ? on the reviews i read the ati x850 xt pe was beating this card on certain things so before i go and spend the looot i was looking for some good advice ?

Whats wrong with buying nvidia? Are you willing to buy the inferior card just because you like ati's? truth is both cards probably performance similarly, but get the 7800 as it has sm3 support (which isnt that important but its something) and it will overclock better than the x850xtpe so i'am told, which should make it the top agp card.
 
If you compare the 7800GS at reference clocks (375/1200) to the X850XTPE then the X850XTPE is faster

The 7800 is a current gen card though with far more features

You've mentioned the XFX EE 7800GS - this is clocked at 440/1300. At this speed it's a fair amount quicker than the X850XTPE.

As mentioned above the 7800GS is a better clocker too. This would be the card I'd go for

The X850 XT is qiucker than the standard 7800GS (with added SM3).
The 7800GS EE / Extreme / Overclcoked versions are quicker again but also cost a tidy summ more usually as well. Thats why i dont feel these versions are worthwhile.

What system do you currently have, may be better to jump to PCIE ?

X850xtpe agp versions are probably just as expensive as the 7800gs's
 
Scan are still selling the AGP X800Pro for £250. AGP cards are way overpriced in an attempt to force people onto PCI-e. It's working as you can get faster cards on PCI-e for almost 1/2 the price, it's ridiculous.

You don't mention the rest of your system, but if it is a socket 939, may i recommend upgrade your board and graphics card to PCI-e, for the same price as a single AGP upgrade?

OcUK still have stock of AGP X850 XT's and they are £170 +VAT (£200 Inc. VAT) so are a good buy. :)

If I was still on AGP and needed the best AGP I could buy it would be BFG as its well priced and BFG cards hold their value better than other brands. :)

Why would you recommend the BFG over the XFX?

Just curious as the XFX is only £5 more and it's clocked 40MHz higher on the core and 50MHz higher on the memory :)

Which would be the better card to go for?the xfs which is already overclocked or the bfg version which can be clocked higher than what it comes at....help needed quickly pleaseeeeeeee.

The XFX

It's clocked higher than the BFG at stock and it'll clock further still
 
Go for the BFG.

Lifetime Warranty seals it really, plus they all overclock really well, had mine to 475/1400 3DMark stable, which puts it well clear of every other AGP card on the market.

Well worth the price premium IMO, just waiting to see what ATi have to counter it.
 
i love how people say "o they ALL overclock REALLY well"

when its not true, my BFG 6800gt would not overclock 5mhz on either core or mem without gettin artifacts, and then it died 2 months later, completely stopped working, not even the fan on it would spin.

(fortunately i rma'd it and got a XFX 7800gtx)

I would not recommedn BFG at all, but tats just coz iv had bad experience, theyr prob fine, but i dont like it when people say "o yeah all of them will easily get an extra 100mhz or so) its lies!

They don't need to counter it x800 XT PE/x850 XT PE are faster.

You do know the 7800 is doing a lot more work in those benchmarks since it is running he Sm3.0 code paths.

Those benchmarks are useless for comparisons.
 
I Didn't know Fear and CoD2 were SM3.0 games lol, and if they are then they should be faster as said above, but Fear is 9fps faster on the good old x800, and thats against an Overclocked 7800. :D

Wonder how many frames the standard non OC 7800 gets whooped by. :p

but he was referring to the 7800GS, which all do overclock well :)
