Which AV Receiver?

I wouldn't go for a Sony if I we're you.

As a former Sony owner I would tend to agree with you of sorts. The 1st one I owned went wrong twice on me before I sold it on. I bought a replacement Sony & I had no problems at all before I sold that one too. The 2nd one to this day is now 10 years old & still working AFAIK. Having said that out of all of the makes these days I'd only go for Pioneer, Denon, Or Yamaha & I've owned 7 different AV Receivers/Processors over the years I've been into Home Cinema.

My only nark with the Onkyo 607 is the HDMI out on it is not the best picture looks a bit grainy vs direct to the TV from source.

PS what were you doing thinking about amps at 1.01am :p

I read the Arcam AVR600 was having software problems, do you Know if its sorted now?

It is a lot better but still not 100% I returned it in the end as it was crashing, not hand shaking with HDMI, poping when changing inputs the list goes on ! I now have a Yamaha Z7 which has worked flawlessly and very close to the AVR600 with movies when off loading the front channels to power amps. I will get a HD processor at somepoint but in no rush as the system sounds stunning at present the Emotiva UMC-1 looks promising but time will tell.

I'd have to agree with Oxide. I've had a few amps in this price range (Onkyo, Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon) and the 1909 was definitely the best sounding one. Of course this is of personal preference and dependant on the speakers it's connected to.

1909 vote here Got mine in sept loving it ever since.

Paired it with the q acoustics 1010i

Should be able to get good deals on the pair now if the 1010i haven run out

Although its been discountinued I really rate my amp the Pioneer vsx-1016v it was cheap when I got it and has some good features for the price. THX Dolby hdmi (although only visual) not sure whats around now but it might be worth keeping an eye out for a cheap second hand unit. Unless you want it brand new
