Which background saves power..

I'm pretty sure one uses more on CRT monitors.. but flat screens use power regardless...

Something like that.. it's the method that's used that decides. I heard thats why a site made a "black" version of the google homepage. Meant they'd save 1p in electricity per 100 views or something.

on crt's black uses less power since it doesnt lightit up,
led backlit displays black should use up less in theory since it doesntlight up that part of the screen, not sure though.
normal lcd's use the same regardless as the backlight is on and its just the pixel that changes.

I find turning the brightness down on my old laptop doesnt make any difference to bat life, not sure on my new one though.

Mmm i was under the impression that one uses more.. Not sure where i read that.. or if I'm making up :p
Well with older CRT screens a black background would save power, but with newer LCD screens which are used laptops then using a black or white background will use the same amount of power AFAIK. :)
Hey Mike, OT - are the chappy that came along to the camping meet a few years back now?
Blimey, you've got a good memory... I did come along to the camping meet years ago, at MattBlack's place... It was good to be able to put a few faces to the names. :)

Would only save power if you have per pixel back lighting. If its just general backlighting then it does not matter what the state of the pixel is.
