im looking at getting a backlit keyboard but wanted to get opinions, so far, the shortlist is:
-microsoft reclusa
-logitech g11

i like the fact that i can change the backlight level and the slider to disable windows key on the g11, but dont like the fact that the set of macro keys on the right make the keyboard wider, also i think i may have problems accidentally hit the macro keys instead of CTRL when i least need it.

on the other hand, the reclusa's layout is more like a normal keyboard than the g11 (im using the ms media something keyboard) but it doesnt have the windows key disabling switch or potentially more importantly, the ability to turn the lights off, i mean, how long will the lights "last" if the keyboard was connected to a machine that was turned on 24/7??

any opnions on build quality or anything else on these keyboards?

im not entirely sure, word is that its sometime this or next month.

how do you find the build quality etc on g15? from what i understand the g11 is the same as the g15 but without the lcd screen.

i think for me, having to choose between wider keyboard with extra keys with a weird layout (g11) vs a keyboard that has lights i cant turn off (reclusa).

i wonder which of the two evils will be less annoying in the long run.

i dont even use the G keys on my g15. i used the arrow keys for gaming and even so they wouldnt get in the way.. its a great keyboard.

well not even for gaming but for simple things like typing, normally i'd put my left hand on the 'asd' and it'd feel 'right' but if there were the extra keys like on the g11/g15, then i'm sure that'll throw me off some.

edit: seems that the eclipse ii uses a backlight that is shared by all the keys whereas the g15 (and i presume g11) lights each seperate key. as i leaning towards the reclusa, i wonder what that uses.

however, the eclipse ii looks very ideal to what i want, basic keyboard with (sexy red) adjustable backlighting.. wish it was all black though. bit wary of the reports ive seen around about the eclipse not being able to press more than 3 keys at once.. wtf!

I'm going to go for the Reclusa I saw a review somewhere but can't remember where (sorry) which was very positive.

I put a request in the 'New product Suggestions' thread and OC's replied to me that they hope to be stocking it later this week! - didn't say how much but looks like its c£35-40 if it is I'll be ordering one

i think i too am going to go towards the reclusa based on the reviews ive seen of it. if ocuk are stocking (uk) stock this week then they've got my order, other online retailers seem to suggest around 10th june for being in stock and £35-40 seems to be about prices mooted on other sites too.

i think the uneven lighting on the eclipse ii kinda put me off, as did the extra g keys on the g11/g15 making the keyboard that much wider.

tbh now, i kinda dont care about disabling the windows key (i'll just not hit it) and not being to turn the backlight off (i'll just buy a new one if it dies)

reclusa me up ocuk!
:)

edit: how did they get the green on some of those keys on that link, check the 3rd picture by "on the fly sensitivity" to see what i mean..

Been looking to fork out on a top quality keyboard myself and was really thinking about the Tarantula to match my DeathAdder but have been well and truly stopped in my tracks by the Reclusa

Fingers crossed for a speedy ocuk release :)
