Got pipex at the moment which is on the fair usage policy constantly (that's 256kb speed at peak times) which is obviously horrendous.

What is a decent, no hassle broadband package that allows heavy (ish) users to function without slowing down.

looking for something that's around £20 a month (lower is better)

o2 have some good deals 20 quid for 20meg broadband unlimited 15quid for 8meg i think the majority of suppliers have the fair usage policy somewhere in small writing

Head on over to thinkbroadband.com and have a look around. Checking the forums is always a good indication of whether an ISP is any good. People seem to sing Be's praises quite frequently over there.
I'd avoid anything that seems a bit cheapo or too good to be true. You really do get what you pay for with ISPs.
I'd recommend Be, UKFSN or Demon. Not sure if they really meet your price range though.

with demon just dont ever download anything..youll go over the 50gig fup and then get limited to 128k, well, you're meant to, feels worse than 56k most times i got limited

If you can get Be and your phone line is reasonable quality, be sure to steer clear of Virgin.

Especially if you'll be keeping your BT phoneline - VM's price difference rapidly disappears if you're still paying for a BT line too.

At the moment i'm considering be value (i can't get faster than 8mb in my area) at £14 a month (seems a bit too good to be true) or demon standard at £17.99 (50gb FUP)

good choices? Any user feedback here?

**additional comment** Daam! Be not available in my area :(

ADSL24 are going ADSL2+ soon which means up to 24meg on an ADSL line, check their site to see when your area are going to get it. But i would check whether you can get Be/o2 as they seem to be the best deals going at the moment providing your area supports it.

Be all the way. All other providers pale in comparison.

Trouble is not many peeps can get it!

If you need in particular for gaming then be will give you best ping times on Fastpath.

"FastPath allows the DSLAM to pass the data received from you to the first hop router without performing any error correction. As a result, marginal lines could experience an increase in packet loss and decrease in sync stability (i.e. frequent sync loss). However, FastPath has lower ping times, especially to the first hop router.
"

Oh and Be have a monthly limit (1.6TB)( Which no one afaik has ever exceeded!)

W00t, be are planning to enable my exchange in June. Migration time.

I'm with Demon atm, I'm quite happy with them. I've hit the FUP a couple of times and have been restricted, but it wasn't too harsh (certainly nowhere near 128k) and didn't affect my gaming one bit.
