Iv been with AOHELL for years now using a router, they wasnt so bad but speeds are well slow as of late.

My contract have ended so after a new ISP.

Will spend upto 25 on a good reliable fast ISP with high or no download caps.

I'm in the same boat and are seriously looking at BE Broadband. I've read only good reviews so far. I guess it also depend on just how heavy a downloader you are.

Can i have some personal views on UKOnline, they do look very good, and no download caps.

Looking at the £24.99 package.

Hi

In general if you can get an LLU provider such as Be* then go for it if you have a resonable good line now ..

apart from that you will struggle to find a 'good known reliable' ISP for under £25 with no download caps .. in the end you do actually get what you pay for in broadband terms (generally)

plenty of reports all over the shop of AOL now throtterling 7:30pm - 12 midnight (think was 6:30pm but they hadnt changed the clocks yet) and some have reported can be solved if get PIN (i believe is its name) reset by Irish call centre but this hasnt been confirmed

suspision is its start of the changes that will creep in when Carphone complete the takeover

on News-Shack we have 2 newb ISP's listed .. one fills your specs i think .. a business package SwiftDSL upto 8mb download upto 0.5mb upload unlimted but has a 12 month contract £25.50p ex VAT

for gamers there is Game2XS but they cost more £35ish i think for unlimted 8mb but i expect they will have a FUP as the network is designed for gamers not downloaders

have to google them or vist the shack but requires registration

hope thats some help & sadly sign of things to come with increasing use of 'Traffic manegment' by virtually all ISP's now even NTL:Telewest

Cozman (Cozzy on News-Shack)

im in an ADSL/ADSL Max enabled area, not LLU, whats the best provider to go for given my requirements?

I can get upto 8mb it says

Another one iv found is Freedom2surf plus package, 50gb limit, upto 8mb

Any views on f2s?

It's who I'm with now. They're excellent. Never had any downtime the past 18 months and always get the max speed available. If you're not going to dl more that 50gig a month then it's defo the one to go for. Unfortunately I need about 150gig plus therefore I'm leaving them.

iam just getting out of my 14 day cooling period with tiscali and am going with demon as soon as i recieve my mac code in the next day or so!

well if i simply say .. f2s are owned and run by Pipex does that say enough ??

lol sorry but Nildram f2s & Pipex are one and the same now and with Nildram now following the Pipex lead of 'heavy' users get a bad boy pipe then you can see the trend

non LLU is gonna be tough to find an 'unlimted' or no FUP .. best bet at moment appears to be one of the Entanet Resellers such as Aquiss .. they all basically have the same packages with slightly differing prices

if already on AOL you can always try ride out the storm and see if people power gets AOL/Carphone to backtrack a little but a gut feeling is it will just get steadily more restrictive as Carphone need to cut costs and improve profit margins as they just recently announced a loss caused by the broadband side of things

im hardly an expert being that im on my 5th ISP of this year alone but sometimes one of the smaller less known ISP's can actually be a better bet if you can get on a 3month or less contract

EurISP that took over from defunked ISP Blueleaf Internet have so far proved reliable for some members at News-Shack but i've not checked their packages lately so im not sure of pricing but they were offering unlimted Max @ £29.99 + vat

dam a lot of waffle .. lol .. hope of some use

Yeah. Just had a letter from F2S this morning complaining about my usage. I'm going to keep hammering away until they throttle me completely, by then I should be with BE.

When do they implement the throttling? if you are over your monthly download quota?

I suspect they'll do it from nex month onwards. I have 30 days to go with them so I'll just cane it for the 30 days and then leave. People on the older packages is going to get throttled, folks on the new packages will get charged about a quid for every gig over their usage limit.

Either way, since Pipex came into the picture their service has dramatically dropped. google around and see the complaints.

So in other words steer well clear of them?

Iv heard nothing but good about fs2 or eclipse so why do they look bad in them reviews?

Also f2s, there site currently states 50gb cap, or +£6 for 100gb.

So i am to assume they wouldnt implement throttlin unless you go over the caps?

Really? I've heard nothing good about f2s or eclipse - I've been on both.

F2S started traffic shaping as per the rest of the Pipex group. Customer service went through the floor too.

Eclipse traffic shape & have now started moving customers to LLU where possible (probably Tiscali's, but they won't admit who). There's been dire results to most people who've been moved.

Steer clear of both, I'd say.

I was getting throttled by aol at peak times but complained multiple times via live help. After about 3 weeks the "fault" on the line was suddendly fixed and been getting good speeds since. Not sure how it will be after 31st dec though.....

so what would you advice, i have adsl/adsl max in my area upto 8meg, i have a low noise level on my line and low loss. I want at least 40-50gb cap per month for upto £25pm max

Enta Resellers would probably be the best advice. Check out UKFSN or Aquiss - they seem to be most popular round here.

Newnet might also suit your needs. They offer a 60GB cap for £18.68 +VAT and get quite good reviews.

I don't know if you've used the compare tool at www.adslguide.org but it's quite useful to compare the monthly speeds, reliability and customer service provided by each ISP. It can be found here. Just click on a few ISPs and then the compare button at the bottom.
