Which Broadband ISP

Enta Resellers would probably be the best advice. Check out UKFSN or Aquiss - they seem to be most popular round here.

in the process of migrating to aquiss now as eclipse have gone to carp now had been with eclipse since may 2003 and were a great isp until kingston and maxadsl came into the picture so my suggestion is avoid them like vd :p

Pipex?

Surely they cant be as bad as AOHELL at the moment
Traffic shaping, bad CS, aggressively aiming for more profits. Their lousy practices have also been passed over to F2S and it looks like Nildram will be soon to follow suit.

no your right they cant be as bad ... but how about 5 times worse .. lol

If doing anything p2p related then forget Pipex as they throttle the life out of p2p in general & they have a wishy washy FUP which they dont put figures on its just how they feel about a certain persons usage habits

steer well clear of Pipex unless all you do is email & browse IMHO

Aquiss , UKFSN , Freeola are the ones i would currently recommend .. there is another new kid on the block but though we list them @ News-Shack we have no experience or members with them ... Upstream Internet .. have to google them or if you feel generous reg at the shack for contact details

still IMHO think an Entanet Reseller is best bet at mo if you can get one on a monthly contract

Iv been looking at demon aswell the Demon HomeOffice 8000 package, i have read the fair usage policy but dont see anything on the lines of download caps?

How will be downloading stuff using bit torrent, i would say on the factors of around 10-15gb a week maybe not non stop but id say with maybe a 1-2 day gap. probably less, would they get funny about this? Would like to hear peoples experiences with using them

Have to say BTYahoo has been ace for me, only had 1 small problem which was higher pings which lasted about 4 days the other week and is now sorted. They have a cap but do not enforce it in less you're taking the ****.

Is a little above average on pricing I think, but you get what you pay from :)

That's a darn nuisance, they were at the top of my shortlist of possible ISPs when I move soon, but if they get bought by CPW it'll more than likely turn to crap quite swiftly won't it??

Valve

Its so hard trying to find something that i want, everything that used to be good are now crap, and everything which is now good are providers which i have never heard of before.

These new ones? how long have they been oporating for? ok they maybe good now but are they good a few months down the line when they get a high number of registrants.

I dont know which one to pick.

I could work on a 50gb cap. would spend an absolute maximum of £29-£30 but would prefer to pay upto £25

Iv also been looking at Freeola, are they the same people as Etranet?

Entanet International are not unknown - they've been around for ages (16yrs, according to their site), they're a pretty huge operation. They don't sell direct though - UKFSN are the most basic reseller, they leave absolutely everything to Enta. You pay Enta, you use Enta's control panel, the lot.

www.adslguide.org.uk forums has a messageboard, maybe check out some comments on Enta & maybe others.

And yes, Freeola are also an Enta Reseller.

Like the adverts say, if you can get cable, you should.

I got Telewest 10MB last week, and I couldn't be happier. After being on Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange 1mb/2mb basically since I got my own computer, this is a breath of fresh air. I haven't had any problems with reliability so far, and I'm getting as close to 10MB as possible, with some speed tests claiming I've got faster than 10MB.

£35 a month for 10, but they also do 4MB if that's all you can afford (However, there are rumours that everyone is going to be upgraded to 10MB early next year, fingers crossed), but it is actually unlimited (unlike all those ADSL offers), and the way I see it, you've got more chance of getting the actual speed you pay for than with ADSL.

http://www.telewest.co.uk/

I can't offer an opinion on the NTL side of things since they're now the same company, but I've heard that they aren't as reliable or as fast as Telewest. So be sure to find out who's area you're in.

Plus, I hear they're going to be offering 20MB next year and 50MB sometime after that although I reckon they'll have to overhaul the network capacity substantially first.

It really is awesome; Downloading at 1.16MB/s. :D

As of this exact mo in time both on personal experience and others opinions ive seen i would recommend ..

Newnet .. good CS in the past (personal experience) reliable and well established .. they have variety of options and caps and have recently been altering the caps upwards which is bucking the trend

Entanet Reseller .. no personal experence but a know several users .. Aquiss have been a good new ISP with top notch CS so far some odd speed probs but that is not unusual on Enta network .. Freeola . nearly always trouble free but CS not totally reliable .. UKFSN .. similar to Freeola but well established and CS has been good in the past but little inactive lately

i believe Zen would be a resonable option if allowing for a 50-60Gb cap though im unsure of their exact packages

Enta Resellers all offer around thw 60Gb peak / 360Gb Offpeak if your happy with that kind of setup

ntl:Telewest if available is deff worth investigating but always get end users in your areas opinion as it varies widely dependant on the local network and team .. CS is so-so sometimes good sometimes aweful

dont think i can add much .. and dont shoot me things go belly-up .. its all IMO and im not an expert just used to ISP hopping this year ..

NDO been around for quite some time.

I've been a customer for the last 3 years..

Only called their support once which is in the UK by the way.

NTL:Telewest Tech support has/is moving to india, while i've attempted to be open minded about this it's causing no end of problems both internally and externally to customers. As far as someone saying TW are traffic shaping they are wrong, both co's have taken a hit due to tens of thousands of students taking service on the network over the last 2 months and as such in some areas upgrades are required at peak times things do slow down, this is often seen as TS/PT/FUP or better yet my personal favourite the gunman on the grassy knoll TGOTGK.

Sorry but you are miss informed .. the cable forum has a statement from ntl:Telewest admitting they DO traffic shape certain areas under certain conditions between 6 & 11pm .. its supposedly only p2p thats effected but they DO traffic shape and have admitted it.

need to read the evidence visit cable forums or News-Shack for the full text .. and this was in recent months not the distant past so not old and outdated info

Cozzy :)

[Sniper][Wolf]:

Have a look at the Entanet resellers - UKFSN & Aquiss.

UK Online ADSL Max - £24.99, is supposed to be half decent. :)
