I've been using a laptop for years, just sitting on the sofa quite happily browsing away.

However, I'm starting an online course soon so will be spending a lot more time at a desk looking at a screen so I'm in the market for a monitor that I can just plug into the side of my laptop. It won't ever play a game and is unlikely to watch any films etc as I do all this via a media PC linked to my TV.

Which of the budget ones would you guys recommend/avoid?

Will this do the job? BenQ GL2450 24"

Cheers :)

Another question, is VGA suitable for HD res monitors? My laptop has a displayport output but I've not seen this input listed on the cheaper monitors.

yes you can - i have a dell u2412m connected via vga to laptop and via dvi to desktop and i'm switching between them via OSD.

VGA is capable of resolutions up to 1920x1200. for anything higher (such as 2560x1440(1600)), you will need display port/dual link dvi.

I'm not going to do a review of this as to be frank, I wouldn't know where to start.

That said, it's a HECK of a lot of monitor for £100, really pleased with it and makes a massive (well, 23") difference having stared at a laptop screen for the past 2 years.

If you've got a spare ton lying around and your monitor is < 23" then get stuck in :)
