Which of these would you pick, CPU needs to be under £50

Athlon II x2 245/250
E5200/E5300

Any since im asking, which extreme budget CPU would you choose between the sempron 140 and the likes of the E1500?

I'd go for the Athlon II 245. If there's only a few quid difference between that and the 250 then obviously go for it, but if it's over £10 then just get the 245. It's a decent chip and it uses socket AM3, which if you get an up to date motherboard is far more future proof than Socket 775. A future upgrade with the AM3 board would most likely just be drop in a new CPU, bobs your uncle.

Yeah, i've heard good things about the Athlon IIs. Obviously not as good as the Phenoms, since they don't have a L3 Cache, but less bad than you would think. It's only a little bit behind, and it is far more future proof, so i would go for that.

Are the 245/250's the ones where its possible to unlock the other two cores (if not damaged?) or is that the phenom II's?

You're wrong. Although they're of the same generation as the Phenom IIs, they are a native dual core design, as seen by their different cache structure.
You cannot unlock them because there are no disabled cores to unlock.

Only Phenom II X2s and X3s offer the possibility to unlock cores.
