Hi,

Didnt see a section for Power Supplies, so posting here (please move it if im being blind and there is a section :D)

Anywho... i've currently got an old Antec TruPower 430w PSU, but today the side fan on it has started making funny noises :( On inspection, the actual fan part has sort of moved inwards off the motor and the blades are knocking on the board of the PSU! :( I've tried fixing it, and it worked temporarily, but its started again now! :(

So, about time i got a new Power Supply then! But, things have changed a lot since i last bought one (as you can probably tell lol), so i have no idea whats good and whats not anymore!

My current rig is as follows;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 CPU @ 2.33ghz
Asus P5N-E 650i SLI Motherboard
4GB DDR2-667 RAM
Geforce 8600GT Graphics
4x SATA Hard Drives (2x Raptors)
1x IDE DVD+RW

What power supply would be a good bet to run that little lot? I dont want to spend silly money (just looked and you can buy ones for over £200?! nuts!), i spent around £50 on the Antec and would be looking at the same again really.

Advice from you wise ones very welcome :D

Many thanks!

if u want a very reliable PSU that will run ** system easily get the corsair, if you want one that can cope with some other future upgrades that will take up more power then the OCZ 500 or 600.

Good 250W unit will do fine.

got an old Antec TruPower 430w
Correction, it's TrueBomb unless it has Trio addition in name.
Old CWT made Antecs are famous for their failure prone cheap Chinese Fuhjjyu capacitors. (especially "Smart"Powers whose cooling is entirely inadequate)

Fortron/FSP does OK realiable PSUs but as overall they can't be considered to have really high quality. Nearly all FSP Epsilon based high power PSUs suffer from high ripple when loads goes up, like OCZ GameXstreams. Former FSP subsidiary Sparkle made StealtXstreams seem to fare better in ripple but neither they have Japanese capacitors.
Fact that some PSU runs fine loads which are somewhere around 1/4th-1/3rd of rated capacity doesn't mean quality is automatically high!

So Corsair VX450

My Antec is still working fine, just has a noisy fan, think the bearings have gone! :(

I've just ordered a CoolerMaster RealPower 520w PSU as it was on offer, thanks for the advice everyone :)
