I'm looking for a mid range gaming pc for my son.

I have seen these 2 build's.

Ryzen build £250
Intel £500

Which is better and last longer.

The Intel build is much stronger for a gaming and all round pc. That 7600k is overclockable in that Z270 motherboard which will give it a nice boost over stock speeds. The 1050ti is much more powerful than the RX550 in the AMD build which is I believe around GT1030 performance. The downside is that it's a dead platform and the only upgrade would be to drop a 7700k in it. The AMD AM4 platform can take any cpu they launch until 2020 if I remember right.

Buy the AMD system, sell the RX550, and the 1300X, buy and install an R5 2600 and Radeon RX580 for the same total cost as the Intel system.

Yea the Intel one is better but its on a redundant platform. The Ryzen platform is going to provide upgrade options in the future.

As said above you could sell the cpu and gpu to upgrade the Ryzen system. Personally I would just drop a 570 into it as it is since the 1300x actually holds up alright in gaming. Performance is similar to a skylake i5 6600k

just overclock it a bit if you want but these benchmarks are with a much stronger gpu: with the 570 the results for all the processors would have been much closer together.

This would be cheaper and much faster overall for games (up to 50%+).

Id say get the AMD platform too, for half the price at £250 its a steal, then do as @Journey said, sell the GPU and the CPU, but update the bios first before removing those parts, it will make sure a 2600 is supported then, and then buy a 2600 and an RX570 mid range GPU or RX580 high end GPU, you'll have a rocking system then.
