Which C2D CPU

Just getting round to do a new build after having the same PC for 3 years its slowly starting to die (RIP).

My main use of this machine will be video encoded and playback, I don't intend to do any gaming, so other uses will be general stuff etc etc

I'm unsure what Core 2 Duo chip to use which would easily suit my needs, the recent price drop makes the E6600 with its 4mb cache around £150 which looks a bargain, but is this overkill for my needs.

Any advice appreciated

Most of the C2D line has been updated to 4mb L2 cache, so the obvious choices are either the 6320 or 6420.

I did look at the 6420 is there much difference performance wise between that and the 6600 ?

not really apart from about 300mhz, but the 6420 can be clocked easily to 6600 speeds and beyond.

Hmmm food for thought would save £25 for something else.....
