I am about to purchase a new gaming laptop with high end CPU and GPU.
The laptop has 2.0b HDMI port and 3.2 gen 2 type c ports.
As far as I understand, in order to have the best monitor performance I should use the type-c port for monitor instead of the hdmi 2.0.

Should I use Type-C to HDMI or Type-C to Displayport cable for my 27 inch 2k 144hz monitor that supports G-Sync?

  1. It won't matter as long as the port supports the resolution and refresh rate.
  2. You haven't provided any information about the graphics capabilities of the USB-C ports.
If you want detailed answers make the effort and tell us the make/model of the laptop and display. We can then, if we feel like it, check the specifications of both devices and fill in the gaps.

I am looking for something to like ASUS strix SCAR 15 or ASUS Zephyrus G15.

Both of them have HDMI 2.0 port and Type-C 3.2 gen 2. On both of them in other to bypass optimus, I will be using an external display. (I would've used external monitor either way, because I already have a good monitor. ASUS VG27B)
