Which card for 2560x1440

What demanding games do you play, and can you really play games at MAX settings with very smooth gameplay?

I don't play FPS much so I can't say anything about bf3 etc. But Skyrim, Witcher 2 and World of Tanks all play at max settings for me. Afterburner frame limited to 59 fps.

If you have £650 to spend I dare say that you will need to make some compromise somewhere. I doubt it will get you a 690/7990 at launch and neither will it get you 2x 680/7970. 2x7950's are about that price range and should handle 2560x1440 very well.

In the past ive never struggled on what graphics card to get, i just done a small amount of research and bam card bought. But im finding it hard for some reason to find the right card or cards for me.

Im still gonna wait until the 690 is released so i can see the price. Besides im not actually gonna buy any cards till june 1st, thats when i got a week off work so i got plenty of time to install, overclock and play games.

I use a 2GB 680 at 1440p and its great. The 7970 is cheaper, and probably represents better bang-for-buck. But if you're not to worried on price then I recommend the 680 from experience.

I game at 1600p and found that a single 680 wasn't cutting it. Plenty of games run exceptionally but the more demanding ones weren't getting close to 60fps. I added a second and now games like The Witcher 2, Batman: Arkham City, Alan Wake and Crysis 2 run much better (though it should be pointed out not quite flawlessly).

The reality is that 1440p/1600p are very demanding resolutions that are far from mainstream and require some serious GPU power to pull off. However, it really is awesome to game at such a resolution.
