Which card for 5.1 in games ?

Hi

I'm currently using optical out into my home cinema amp via my Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 mobo. I can't get 5.1 in games only stereo and can only seem to get 5.1 via xbmc for movies. What card will I need to get 5.1 from from games ?, also will a sound card give a noticeable upgrade in sound quality even if I'm outputting via optical ?.

I got a 2nd hand Xonar DS soundcard in the end for £26, on the fly DTS encoding is enough for me.

Good buy OP.

Titanium Fatal1ty is overpriced and a waste of money, when all you need is either DTS or Dolby 5.1 encoding.

Why spend £90-£110, when a £40 card will do the same job.

DG is a great card for £20, but it does not have real time 5.1 encoding, which the OP wanted.
