which card for approx £150

You could also get a 9800GTX+ at that price, which AFAIK is slightly quicker than the 4850. I'm sure you'd be happy with either cards.

the original 9800gtx is slower than the 4850, the 9800gtx+ is about on par IIRC, so it's really on price, stuff you get with it and the warranty. Be aware that the new ATI cards do AA better than the Nvidia offerings. I would suggest a 4850, it has more bells and whistles =)
 
Either 9800gtx+ or a 1gb 4850. Must admit the cooler on the 9800 looks good. Check out the temps and warranty and take it from there.
 
Either a 4850 or 9800gtx+, like it's been said, both evenly matched with the 9800 coming out on top on most games. The cheapest 4850 compared to the equivilant 9800gtx+ is £23 cheaper though. So personally I'd pick the 4850, purely because of the price difference, if it was closer I'd have a tough choice picking between the 2.
